Hi Guys

Problem with the above is bad running and heavy black smoking under load it has had the egr changed at the dealer and i have checked to see if where the egr mounts is blocked with carbon but seems fine but starnge thing is unplug the air mass unit and still a bit sluggish but no black smoke

has anyone had a similar thing to this?

also it has had a new air mass unit but no different

many thanks

these have a map sensor too in the rear of the inlet manifold once you remove it you will see the soot
also suffer from turbo actuators sticking
usually low millage units suffer worse... once new map is fited take it out and take a long drive to regenerate the fap

oops i put maf meant map lol

Could you check for errors on ecu,diagnostic...?
If so,read and clean all errors and test again.
Could try too with other air mass sensor.

:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::rofl mao:

Should you decide that it's ecu, IF you find somebody that can even
test it, please e-mail admin, so they can make it a sticky.

It's a Fiat Punto Engine - USE A VOLTMETER

AND see what voltage you have coming out of the fuel pressure sensor.

Had these where the fuel rehulators go down.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT AFTER 3 HOURS, GIVE UP

is the maf sensor easy to get too?

as for fault codes there are none

it did have a sticking wastegate which was sorted at the dealer which also showed up on codes when read (low boost pressure)

'Let us know what you gave up on' jobs.

3 hours, then bail out, unless you find something, then plod on

hi mate ..yea map i meant to type
its at the back of the inlet manifold and held in with a torx scew
they fill with soot and jam the sensor the idle value is set cos the port is blocked
have a look at live data and see if the voltage goes up and down when its reved
or just remove it and see if its blocked
if it is blocked you could try cleaning but it dont always work
but worth a go ?

sorry about the maf bit typing so didnt recheck
map sensors the one to look for

i have found a small hole in the intercooler and have a replacement on order so i think (fingers crossed) this is where all the problem is coming from

Intreasting, hoe much and how did you find it?

Bycycle innertube cut open, stuck over both ends and inflated, dropped in water?

Could you 'bump my thread' with that please

UPDATE

@ MH found it by getting my mate to rev the tits off it whilst i check all the pipe work.

Have relaced it now but still the same but have now noticed the actuator on the turbo dont seem to be moving when revving under load yet it can be moved with a screw driver and sucked on the vac pipe and seems ok so no damaged actuator diaphram
so back on it again in the morning (lucky me not)

intercooler cost ?190

1) tell punter had to change inter cooler to elimate it
2) M-H-M would have used chewing gun, sprayed it silver charged 190+vat
3) that would suggest vac valve internal fault.

yeah stripping turbo off in the morning to have a better look at it

1) Some bloke we don't like came in the other day waving a turbo, the
clamp that HOLDS IT TOGETHER, had dropped off!

2) One of us is barking up the wrong tree?

If you move the waste gate and it moves, that to me is a 'safty feature'
(new spelling) so sake of argument it is sezized you would got 'over boost ' fault?

For example your going down the road at 1000 mph, this thing goes 'i'm going to blow' open wastegate ' WHOOSH' - like a fart gone.

BUT would suspect as we are in the 21st centuray it will be PWM
to make BOOOST Oh the 21st centuray were cars still have relays designed by the victorians and glass invented by the eypitions using sand!

BEFORRE yoyu take turbo off

1) check the clamp(S) are intact.
2) Probe the valve on the end, see if you get a pulsing signal
3) bypass the electric solenoid valve and go for a GENTLE thrash.
4) I was in a 1.7 Combo DOHC TURBO, but you don't know it has a turbo
cos it's a 'low blow'

3) electric solonoid? if you mean actuator its vacuum controlled

and do you think you should be able to blow down the vac pipe enough with your mouth to move it as im unsure what the blow off pressure would be but prob expect it to be a max of about 4psi

Go to a nearby scrap yard and see if you can down load a central door locking pump off a MK2 Gulf or something.

Vac and pressure! - no idea if will work.

Now even more confused than you are!

My approach on this would be as follows:

1. Check vacuum at the pump and wastegate actuator (using mityvac)
2. Smoke pro the intercooler hoses to check air leaks ( tool Smoke Pro)
3. Live data readings watching EGR, Map, MAf etc readings.
4. Check EGR (not your case as it's been re[placed allready)
5. Scope air mass meter (Picoscope)
6. Injector leak back test
7. Not a usual thing to check but had it and was tearing my hairs out....pull injectors out and make sure there's only one copper washer on the seat...2 washer instead of one can cause running problems and black smoke..
8. Don't forget timing. This are quite funny to get them spot on if not proper kit had..

Hope may be of help..

PS. Strippping the turbo would be the last on my check list...

1 not got mityvac but test at what pump?
2 not got smoke pro tool but have sprayed etha around to check for leaks
3 live data from op-com attached
4 egr changed (but customer said it smokes a bit more with new one)
5 no scope available
6 leak back test not carried out
7 not sure how many but dealer says it has 2 washers per injector
8 vehicle has been running ok and not had the timing altered

You may have the answer to your problems mate..Pull'em out and make sure one washer per injector. Can't understand why people put 2 washers...been there..

Mate, take the same measurements at full load and then post live data here. These values are for idle speed (850 rpm) and seem to be OK.

UPDATE

Removed all pipe work and checked for splits etc but nothing so put pressure into actuator and seems to operate but wether its at the correct psi i dont know so put it back together and took it for a thrash 12 miles down the a1 and seems to have cleared it out now and seems to be about 90% better so all it has is a bit of a flat spot on odd occasions in 1st/2nd gear on acceleration

@ omglol if problem returns again i will do live data under load

although 'pointless' do some test whilst it is still working.

Also suggest the customer downloads a quality brand of fuel, shell, esso, bp etc
has it has a fuel filtrer?

teerak2uk

has had full service filters, oil etc to see if it helps i also asked him to try something like shell higher grade diesel

OFF TOPIC:-

Long time ago, some old thick bloke came in who used to deliver fuel in large smelly lorries.

He once a week, went to some smelly dirty, thick straw chewing farmer, who every week had his own tank of white diesel, of xxx gallons.

One week, being a thick lorry driver, he accidently, managed to deliver xxx gallons
of KEROSENSE - aircraft fuel.

The next week, the smelly dirty, thick straw chewing farmer, asked what was in the last delivery, as ALL the trucks in his fleet went like rockets, even the stuipd looking tractor, in the yard used for moving cow turds around, went like a rocket.

Several months go by with the smelly dirty, thick straw chewing farmer, asking every week about what the 'special' load was.

The thick lorry driver told him in the end, that it was a genuine mistake.

Next week, the smelly dirty, thick straw chewing farmer, rings the company to
change his order. From now on he wants xx gallons of white diesel and xx gallons of KEROSENSE.

The smelly dirty, thick straw chewing farmer, mixed it 50/50 and all the farm vechiles, lived happly ever after, untill all the cow turds and pig piss rotted the chassis away, beyond economical repair.

they need to have a regular motorway run or the soot up badly

just codes for map and wategate stuck mate
but the soot buit up is amazing
must be due to the fap not getting regen or sumic
but the bos bought six and the lower milage ones were the culprits
one came from stornoway or sumic
that was sooted up real bad
nowhere to regen the fap there
without having to stop for cows and sheep lol

teerak2uk
23rd September, 2010, 09:33 PM
similar to PO vans as thi is an ex british gas one so prob alot of stop/start but not as bad as a PO van i suppose.

is there any other way to regen the fap?

PERFICK for pouring down Merc Vito injectors.

The really CHEAP 25 litres for 7p from sukermarket does wounders

Whilst on the subject are Vito injectors coded?

You mean whilst we are off topic:

Don't *THINK* so, ussuming you are talking - off topic - about the
earlier shape.

Tell you why the company that 'moved' that ran a fleet of Vito's
were basically fitting new heads and injectors 'daily' nothing was ever mentioned about it. So guess that's a nil poi.

POUR SOME COCA-COLA DOWN FIRST - no shit shurlock.
