I don't know. The problem is that is a hybrid unit and I can?t read the chip. Program with galleto on car :(

IN ORDER TO READ IT ....you have to get it into boot mode m8!
and by putting it on the car, there is no pin in # 20 i think ?
you can only do this on the bench with galletto, and if im not mistaken, you have to take off the rear cover and ground it on a specific point to get it into boot mode m8..........
if i find this ill send it to you................

hope this shines some lite!

@ pugdud: Thank you man for the nice pictures !

@ dimitar: It would be really helpfully if you could post some advice about reading with galletto !

@ immokill: I was trying this file http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/images/styles/digital/attach/rar.gif ALFA M 1.5.5 total.rar (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/attachments/f178/50147d1297551502-immo-fiat-bravo-1-2-16v-0261206276-alfa-m-1.5.5-total.rar) and in my case it doesn?t work. Immo was not off !

@all : Please, have someone a solution how to program without security code and, i have a virgine ECU 0261204948,how can i read the immo file and where is it ????

So i think the eprom 24c02 where we put a ground on it is for the flashfile only ?!

Thanks !

The pinouts above are not for Galetto so they will not work.

With Galetto you can write only, but you can use KWP2000 to make this ecu off. Best solution by flash not by eeprom, even if it works, at least you will not play with the chip directly ;)

The bootmode is to read and write the flash file.
You have to write/find a flash file which will re-write the eeprom.
When it has done that task you can put the original back in.

Hello Tony,

i know about the bootmode !

What i don?t know is what programm i have to use for reading the eprom. Because all flashers aren?t reading M1.5.5 from Alfa.

That?s my problem. So if you know something about reading Alfa M1.5.5 share with me.

Where can i find such a flashfile for r/w the eprom ?

Ok guys, have got the Galletto working and have some results.
1/ The earthing of the eeprom pin is to make ecu think there is an empty memory. ie virgin.
2/ Ground the pin as shown and supply +13.5 volts (ignition), you can remove ground immediately.
2/ The eeprom eraser file is programmed in and the power remains on.
3/ The power is removed then applied again.
4/ The ground to eeprom is applied and ecu power applied.
5/ The .ori file is programmed in, I think, with the +13.5v always applied.

No immobiliser is used in this bench procedure.

Galletto pin 7 --- ecu pin 11
" " " 4--- ecu case
" " " 16 --- +13.5v

+13.5v --- ecu8, 17, 18, 10, (switched)

This method should work with kwp2000 also. I'll try and let you know.
Tony

NB latest info is that I cannot yet test on the bench whether the immo off is operational or not. It certainly scrubs the eeprom to some extent, but unable yet whether it truly removes the immo or virginises it -- or either. Cant get the virtual engine to work with it.

File loading works with KW2000 ok.

I try in car and even your on bench.(with galletto)
ECU in car -- pin 10 +13.5 volt
ECU DATA -- OK
OPEN FILE --OK
DOWNLOAD FILE -- "Seed key ... errore SK: -9"

ECU on bench -- 0 volt - pin 23
13,5 volt - pin 8,10,17,18
galletto pin7 (k-line) - pin 12
ECU DATA -- OK

The ecu will not allow programming until the ecu is "open".
That is when the immo has sent correct data to ecu to allow starting. This also applies to the KWP2000 + units.
The alternative method to "open" the ecu is to ground the SDA pin of the eeprom, before the power is applied see the method I used. Extreme care must be taken or the ecu is scrap!.
The KWP2000 units program files which sometimes Galletto will not.
The KWP has an annoying system that will not allow you to load a file if the read eeprom function does not read correctly. I eventually loaded a stubborn file to
0 261 204 948 Alfa 156 like this:-
Using Galletto, start with short in place, read ecu data.
Program in 127 kb of zeros.
Using Kwp (no short) load in the flash. (the flash would not load in with Galletto).
Tony.

Yes,

you could take the cod file to make the ecu virgin and off.

After this, you have to flash your desired ori file from your ecu, and then the immo is off and ready for new immo-code.

Don?t forget to unplug the immo-box after you wrote your ori file back if you need only immo off.

It?s interesting !

Normally i am using a different file to make the ecu?s virgin or off. I was trying this cod file one time and it has worked for me.

Here is the file i am using always to make my ecu?s clear.
It?s for a 2.0 engine and it?s a immo off file, what you can use directly without flashing the original file after or without unpluging the immo box.

If you flash after the 2.0 immo off file your original file e. g. 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 or 2.0 M1.5.5 the ecu allows to start and the ecu is not programmed !!

Hi I have SK-9 error too, I try write without SDA+GND, any idea?

Ground SDA and write COD file
Turn off ECU
Remove SDA to ground
Write desired file to your car's version

If you get Seed key-9 error, retry it a few times and check that the SDA is grounded correctly.

I used KWP2000 on CanTieCar emmulator cable works great also for Galetto and CMD No Problems at all.

Just need to get used to switching system between different modes then perfect.

In the car is easy, just puck a wire from battery + into pin 10 of Kod 8 to allow programming.

It's tricky, but once you get the hang of it will be easy. Believe me, I've done dozens of these without any problem.

When you get seed error it could mean SDA is not grounded, check it. Or just retry and it will eventually work.

I apply +12v to pin 10 of Kod 8 only 3 seconds after starting the download. I use a switch on that wire so I can easily control when I want to apply it.

Why did you destroy the ECU? What went wrong?

You need to make a table to hold the ECU and the needle. Use this damaged ECU to help you build one and to practice. This ECU wont work in the car anymore but you can still play with it. It will write if you put SDA to ground.

You can't read the M1.5.5 ECU, only write. Write the COD file first in boot mode and then the BCB of your choice.

Because I got only files from our forum.

The same COD file can be used to reset all M155 ECUs, 1.6, 1.8 or 2.0 L.

The ECUs are basically the same, so you can take one from a 2.0 and use it in a 1.6 provided that you flash it with the correct BCB file.

I couldn't find 0261204731 file, where are you from? There are some countries that have specific files that we cannot find, like in Brazil we have 0261206059 which no one ever found!

If you find another Alfa 1.6 file that is compatible with the M155 ECU you can try. But becareful because some 156 1.6 files are for the M2.10.4 ECU and therefore not compatible. You should look for files 127/128 Kb in size.

So what for is this thread? See at euroscan's, brchip, columbo25 and other guys posts. It probably works with this solution. Maybe I don't understand something?
Maybe I make something wrong... I try to write with Gaeletto, kwp2000, mpps, MagPro2.
With Gaeletto 12.50 ecu on bench, SDA connected to gnd ecu is in boot mode, I can write *COD file but then i disconnected gnd from SDA and data info is only HW number and no others signs. It's possible to write *bcb file but engine doesn't start. At first I've tried with disconnected immo box and it gave no result. Secondly I've tried with connected immo box and strictly the same situation.

You need to build a wood table as support for the ECU and with an "arm" to hold the needle in place securely.

I've done dozens of ECUs and never lost one this way.

Lifting this old but very informative thread!

I understand it like this: You need to have the M1.5.5 connected to an immobox that sends a "GO" signal OR ground the SDA pad of the 24cxx chip to trick the ECU that it has a "GO" signal, to be able to program a new file to the eeprom. Grounding the SDA pad is a little risky since you can damage the bond wires in the hybrid circuit if you're not careful.

Now, has anyone tried to connect a VIRGIN immobox instead of grounding the SDA pad? Will try it myself, but I thought I'll ask you first so I don't invent the wheel again.

Tried with a virgin immobox. It's a no go.
That what was I expected after reading the Alfa Code description in the workshop manual for a M1.5.5 Alfa. Worth a try though.

The car should run with the file you have, if it's in bcb format.

You need something like Galletto 1260 or KWP2000 or newer tools. You cannot read this ECU, only write. To write put it in boot mode with pin 10 of Kod8 connected to +12v.

Write it in the car. You cannot write it on the bench unless you decode it first. You need a file "without immo" to write and make immo off.

Another way is to make it virgin again, but it's more tricky and risky. You need to open the ECU and put SDA pin of eprom connected to ground. I don't recommend doing it unless you're very experienced and have the right tools.

In order to flash the M1.5.5 you must have a vaild "permission to start engine" from the immobilizer system. That can be achieved by having the ECU in a car and using a valid key. If you have the ECU on the bench then you must trick the ECU to believe that it is virgin to be able to flash it. That is done by grounding the SDA pad of the 24c02 circuit. Some people call this "boot mode" on different forum, but this is wrong. The MCU of the M1.5.5 is never in bootstrap mode. Software update is made through a function in the software, so if you flash the wrong file the ECU will be bricked. Make sure you flash a BCB file and not a BIN file. If you flash a BIN file your ECU will be f****d !

What the COD file does is that it rewrites the EEPROM of the ECU. In order to do that you must reboot the ECU when you have flashed the COD file.

Then when the EEPROM is changed you flash back the original file. Since immo/virigin data is in the EEPROM memory it is untouched when you write back the original SW to flash memory, and your ECU stays virgin/immo off.

Use the attached COD-file.

Hi guys i am looking to do the immo off mod to the ecu in my alfa 156 2.0 TS as the immob box is intermittently faulty (code light wont go out when the ambient temperature is low)
ecu#0261204948

it looks like i have to:
get a galleto cable
leave the ecu in the car with immo box plugged in
apply +12v to pin 10 of Kod 8
flash *.cod file with valid key/immo signal
power off ecu
disconnect immo ecu
power on engine ecu
flash *.bcb file for 0261204948 ecu
leave immo box disconnected and car will now start

IS this the correct procedure? what software do i use to flash the files?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hello all!
Nice info here, guys!
I am trying to bypass the CODE system in my Alfa GTV 2.0TS. It is failing intermittently, so it is very annoying as the car won't start in the worst occassions only. This renders the car unuseful.
I can get it to crank properly some times in my garage, so as long as I get the Start premission from the ECU, maybe I can program the files in-car, am I right? So, what are the required files and the procedure to remove code? I have Galletto 1260 at hand, if that's useful.
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

According to FiatEcuScan, these are the numbers:
HARDWARE NUMBER: 0261206061
SOFTWARE NUMBER: 1037350386

Find original file 0261206061 and convert it from BIN to BCB first.

Look for post #35 with the explanation and decode files you'll need.

Flash ECU with COD file and then with your original BCB file.

That's it. Remove immo box and start car.

If you have the tools and skills, sure you can. You won't be able to remap the 103 HP ECU as it's not coded for your Alfa (not Alpha, by the way -;

Remember to convert the file from BIN to BCB before uploading.

Yes, I've done this before. I use 1.8 engine ECUs in 2.0 cars and so on, but I've never tried with a 1.4 engine ECU, so I'm not sure it could be done. Maybe the hardware is different?

If you open the back cover of both ECUs you can compare the board and the connections. I'd say if they are the same it should be fine.

If you refer to the hardware codes they are different ...
The A and B connectors at the top of the ECU are the same,
except that for example the pin 33 of the
Connector B in the ECU of 1.4 and 1.6
It is not connected to the electric circuit of the motor

I have done various tests by linking the geo-var but it goes to shots,
after which it is no longer activated ...
I tried the car with 1.8 file
I have to say that's fine, but it would serve
an evaluation with self-diagnosis
while traveling to evaluate all the parameters.
The thing I do not understand is that
despite having connected a
pole of the sensor to the battery + 12V and the other
pole to pin 33 of the ECU,
he did this trick I wrote on ... boooh ... how come?

From the car's electric diagram
it is evident that all the sensors
on the engine (Lambda, variator, recovery heater, minimum actuator)
are powered by 12V from the relay
main protected by fuse,
while the other pin of all
sensors goes to a specific ECU pin.
The only thing that comes to mind is that
fueling the geo-var sensor apart
the ECU does not recognize it as
applied load, in the sense it would go
fed along with all the others
contemporally ??
What do you recommend me?

Hi,

Try this with Galletto 1260:

Click WRITE and only apply 12V to pin 10 after about 2 to 3 seconds. If it fails, disconnect power altogether and start again. You need to connect the immo box to the ECU and power it too, otherwise the ECU won't allow programming.

Take a look at this video to see ECU and immo box connected:

Today I have programmed this way:

1) file .cod (Post # 142)

3) I unplugged the CODE unit and the car is started;

Everything is perfect !!!!

Then I connected the pin 33 of connector B of the ECU

Today I had some free time and I made a
mapping for variable geometry and phase variator.
Through my damos-file, now active
the variable geometry with long ducts
already at 1600rpm and 30% of butterfly; this should improve acceleration already at low rpm.
The timing variator map has had a slight change,
activating already at 1800rpm and about 10% throttle;
Advances, Injection and others have been slightly modified
to optimize all the operation
and have greater readiness on the road.
The verifications with Multiecuscan on a road closed to traffic
He was successful, the rich mixture
(max 0.83 lambda at max rpm) and perfect values.
If you want the files contact me in private.

Hello everyone. (Sorry for my langage i'm french...)

I'm new here, and I would like to thank you a lot, my 156 2.0 was immo blocked after loosing my only key ship... And it's thanks to your files and your procedures that i have unlocked it! :applause: (Sometimes i wonder how, i'm so bad in this area)

So you can do it with MPPS V13 with no problems, here is the procédure I used, i don't know if it's works because i'm just lucky... But if it can helps!

- 640664
- P10 + 12v too.
- SDA To ground,
- Starts MPPS
- Press Ecu ID
- On the right, the date is 00/00/0000, if it's not, SDA is not the ground, so retry to place it. (if it's good, immo chipset detected, next step)
- Write erase1.BCB file, from Euroscan user (message #53, thank you!)
- Wait the chargement, then a message says "Switch Off, blablabla" so cut alimentation 30 seconds.
- Keep SDA out of ground
- Alimentation ON
- Press Ecu ID
- Now you have the real date of ecu, like 09/03/1998 (for me) on the right screen
- Write *YourEcuFiles.BCB*
- Wait chargement, Switch Off etc...
- Disconnect the green Immo box beside the dashboard

- Engine start ALLOWED. :tears_of_joy:

You need something like Galletto 1260 or KWP2000 or newer tools. You cannot read this ECU, only write. To write put it in boot mode with pin 10 of Kod8 connected to +12v.

Write it in the car. You cannot write it on the bench unless you decode it first. You need a file "without immo" to write and make immo off.

Another way is to make it virgin again, but it's more tricky and risky. You need to open the ECU and put SDA pin of eprom connected to ground. I don't recommend doing it unless you're very experienced and have the right tools.

Hi brchip!

Do you have: You need a file "without immo" to write and make immo off.

This is the original file 0261206276 (not tested), you need to convert it to BCB format if you're gonna write it with Galletto 1260.

To make it virgin you need to put ground to SDA and flash the COD file you find here.

Next remove the groumd to SDA and flash it with the ori file.

Remove immo box before installing the ECU to the car.

Hello.
Pin SDA must be connected to ground while I write COD file or only while I start ECU?
I connected pin SDA for moment, while I started ECU and FES showed programmed date: 00/00/0000.
It's enough?

Yes, keep SDA to ground only while writing the COD file, Km will show 0 Km at this moment. Then turn off ECU and remove SDA to ground and restart ECU and write ori file.

P8, P17, P18 - 12V
P11 - K-Line

Gelletto shows "Errore invio INIT2", while I try write COD.
ECU is detected correctly.
What is a problem?

No ideas?
I don't find resolve in web. Most problems are with INIT1 and INIT2. I have only INIT2 error.

Yes, I tried with P10 connected to 12V. Result is the same "Errore invio INIT2".
Power supply voltage is 12,1V
Ground is connected to ECU case.

Are you using files in bcb format? Maybe your galletto is not working well, I don’t know. I do these ecus all the time with this procedure without issues. Next time I’ll make a video for you.

Ok, problem is solved. I used other galletto interface.

I have different question.
Does anyone have pinout of MCU in this ECU? Is this C509L?

Hello Everybody,

I have read all this thread with attention to find some answers to my questions, so many thanks to all contributors with their precious experience.
Actually I am rebuilding a 2.0 TS petrol engine to replace the old 1.8 TS engine of my Alfa 156.
The ECU M1.5.5 of the original 1.8 TS is working fine but I guess I could have issues when the 2.0 TS will be transferred in the car...

Can I buy a used 2.0 TS ECU M1.5.5 and put it in the car without any "immo" issues ?
Or do I have to reprogramm it with the procedure described in the previous posts ?

Thanks for your answers

The ECUs from 1.8 and 2.0 are the same, only the file is different so you can use yours and update it with the desired version.

Thank you Brchip,
The code system won't be changed or deleted if I reprogram the original ECU ?
Maybe taking an ECU from a trashed car (1.8 or 2.0 TS) and put the file in it would be less risky no ?

Hi Franzgo,

The code will not be erased if you just update the file version from 1.8 to 2.0. Best and easiest way will be to do it in the car, not on the bench.

You can use the obd2 port of the car but you need to put a +12v to pin 10 of the ECU Kd8. To do this, use a thin wire and stick it to the female connector of the ecu that goes to pin 10. Put the connector back to the ecu with care not to bend any pins. Then connect this wire to the positive of the battery (I use an alligator clip).

Flash the ori file for a 2.0 version and remove the wire when done. Job done!

The file format should be BCB, not BIN. You need to convert it from bin to bcb if needed.

Thank you Brchip,
