Hi to all,
Here goes the problem...
This friend/client arrived with a Opel Astra 2001 1.7 ECU with the following identification:
8973065750 12212819
ISUZU 1.7L/TX2 DIESEL
DELPHI DELCO ELECTRONICS SYSTEM
And there are at least 3 problems:
- everyday car won't start in the morning (battery discharged...). He's carrying a second battery to start it when he needs
- the glow (resistance) light, doesn't light
- the connector near letter M has pins 47 and 64 BROKEN
I've car pin and car shows mileage. A few days ago I removed IMMO eprom and read it.
Yesterday I connected OPCOM to the car and have no errors, but when trying to read ECU, I always get comunication error (K82, if I can remember, or ECU busy).
Can someone point me my options?
I don't think, in spite of mine electronics skills, that I can manage to recover the broken ECU pins.
So the questions are:
1. do you think that the non starting car, discharged battery, might be related to the broken pins?
2. considering that I can't recover the pins, shall I try to find an used ECU? By the way... somebody knows how much it's worth an used one and a new one from Opel?
3. it's easy to adapt it to the car. Which are the procedures? Should I disassemble this ECU and exchange any components with a "new" one?
Since I have the ECU with me, right now, the car it's stopped at clients home...
Sorry for all of this questions, but, in fact, I haven't ever done a job like this and I really don't know how it should be done.
All the help, will be MUCH APRRECIATED!!!
Thank you,
PM.

Well... please leave me your comments on the following...
After browsing throw the forum for the last hours, here are my conclusions/options:
1. find an used ECU, connect it to the car, and with OPCOM read VIN. Then ask Opel for the corresponding Carpass to adapt it
2. connect it to the car and read this new used ECU and try to read it with MPPS and then find someone here that can give me the PIN, and then adapt it
3. try to buy an used but already reseted ECU. In this case, I don't need It's PIN, just the PIN from my car
4. in the first 2 cases, and having the new used ECU PIN, I must connect the ECU to the car and reset it with OPCOM, right?
5. anyway, I still don't know the answer for the glow light and battery discharge. I hope it's related to the broken ECU pins, correct?
Please give me your thoughts.
THANK YOU!

second hand reseted ecu = 200 euro
put it on the car pair it with the car using carpass
everything will be ok. check if there is any diesel smell inside old ecu. usually this is the common problem for broken pins in 1.7dti

Thanks for your answer.
Can you please explain what do you mean with the diesel smell? Shall I look for something else that contributed to the broken pins?
By the way... the owner also says that the fan "works alone"... even with the car off.
Please give me your comments.
Thanks.

Simple way to code these ecus is to read eeprom from old ecu and copy into second hand ecu. Read eeproms in circuit as they read ok and are very difficult to desolder.

Hi. Thanks.
I think that will be possible only with an adaptator, right?
Do you think it's possible to be done with X-Prog M?
Wich eprom should I read?
Thanks for the answer.
Any help it's MUCH APRECIATED!

The eeprom is a 25c320 and you can read with x-prog m with an test clip like this. You have to open the ecu. If you do it this way the secondhand ecu does not need to have been reset.

Hi smokey,
This is a very nice help.
MANY THANKS for your info. Illustrated and so on... eh eh eh...
So, there is no problem on reading these ECUs in circuit? No risc of "burning" them?
And following your opinion, I read the old one with XProg, write the bin file to the new used one, put it on car and ready to go, wright? Same (old) PIN, etc., correct?
By the way... these ECUs are siliconed, or something like that... How do you usually open them? With a X-acto, or something like that? And glue them again with silicone also?
THANK YOU AGAIN!

I didnt damage the one I did this way. The pin is transfered in the dump. I used a small screwdriver to scrape the sealer away (takes a bit of time). be very careful of the wires that go the the multiplugs when opening. use the 2 side of the plate and not the ends to lever open. Stick it back on with some silicon.
Here it the dump I read (VIN edited) so you can compare to make sure your read is ok.
Edit: I forgot to add that the eeprom is covered in gel. Makes sure you clean the pins of the eeprom well to make sure you get a good read.
