I have a problem in Expedition year 2001 instrument cluster, the car owner told me that one guy attempt to rollback its mileage but the cluster was damaged after connecting it on his touch screen machine.
Now the car has no power on instrument cluster except for those indicator lights , check engine,ABS,Anti theft, etc is working properly the only problem was the meter doesnt show mileage and all the pointers was not moving and just stay on minimum position but the car engine still can start and run.
I took away the instrument cluster and test if the car can start and I found that it cannot start without connecting the meter so therefore the anti theft system in dash is OK.
The only problem is its dead pointers and dead mileage, anybody encounter this kind of problem?
The instrument cluster of this car has a "White PCB Board" with MCU 3E22B QPF package.
Thanks in Advance to anyone who can help to solve this problem

most likely to be corrupted data on the micro.
wondering what type of touchscreen machine was used to do it.

if a corrupt data in micro it should be appear "Err" on display or the car will not starting
I am still searching to find the problem until now but my eyes are tired. will be check again tommorrow

I encountered that same problem with Enigma. Is that the whiteboard hc11 cluster? The one with tqfp micro...???

You mean that the guy who try to correct the mileage maybe using the Enigma Machine? is this common problem from the machine on this cluster?
btw how did you solved it? Yes it is whiteboard with HC11 (3E22B) Motorola MCU.
I try to power it using AC adapter the anti theft blink but the LCD is totally blackout without showing "--------"

I could not fix it writing dump with etl hc11 either. I just replaced cluster from scrapyard and adapt to car using ford vcm.

Did you used the same cluster with whiteboard? or can I use a greenboard because I can get a secondhand cluster but its a greenboard. Can I adapt a used cluster from another car or I need a brand new meter? ford dealer told me that they are not able to adapt the used cluster.

99-02 can interchange cluster. That greenboard will work also. Ford dealer can adopt used cluster, they may not because they want you to buy bnew cluster.
Find someone who has ford vcm ids and adopt your cluster. You might need 2 keys for this to work. Good luck.

I did not fixed this car, the client took the car to bring into another shop because the shop technician claimed that they can fixed the car without replacing the cluster. they just ask me if the car can still starting and when I said "yes" they guaranteed me that it can fixed without replacing the meter.

The data in the micro controls more than the IMMO and Odometer information.
And it could be corrupted
Even if it starts and shows miles.

it was fixed in another shop, I see it because the car owner forgot his spare tire and he come back to get it. I ask him what they replace and told me that it is a square part with 3 leg. I think it is mosfet or maybe a transistor regulator. I think that the problem is about the regulator that supply the stepper motor because it also connected to a filament of LCD with a bypass of two big resistor.

The problem is the transistor connected to modB pin. It burns because you're creating a short to ground on its circuit.Next time either lift that pin up or if you make the connection in the back by soldering in to the jumper wire, just cut it and solder your programmer's wire to the bottom part of it. Once finished restore the cut jumper. It only happens on the white board version with QFP package motorola hc11. Replacing the transistor would have fixed your problem.
