View Full Version : Peugeot 307 AC Compressor Clutch

Hi everyone!
The AC compressor on my Pug 307 doesn't start as the clutch doesn't engage. Considering the fact that the PP2000 diagnostics finds no problem with the AC ECU, my first thought was that there is some problem either with the clutch or with the wires powering the clutch. However, if I run the BSI test (in PP2000) which checks the AC compressor clutch, the clutch engages and disengages just fine (loud and clear "click" is heard when the clutch engages/disengages).
Any ideas what might be causing the clutch not to engage when I turn on the AC?
Thanks.

There is pressure on the AC pipes?
What's the pressure?
Low and high.....

I really can't say, I guess you need an AC system refilling equipment to check the pressure in the system?
BTW, if there is an pressure sensor which prevents the clutch engagement in case of inadequate system pressure, I'd expect that the AC ECU would detect such condition and report it asa fault in AC system, unless such sensor is a mechanical safety element with no interface to the ECU system...

yes done by weight, called a Triary switch

Thanks.
Sorry, no idea who it was, but it was in a a/c thread.
Think it was something like, stand on one leg, ignition on, press the stero off button then donate LOTS of money to DK or something
use the search button

That could be it, I'll have to check the switch any the system pressure. I checked in the SEDRE diagrams and found that a trinary switch (prssostat) is connected to the engine ECU. Maybe that's why the PP2000 successfully tests the AC clutch functionality via the BSI, while in regular AC operation the BSI probably consults the engine ECU for the switch status and then decides whether it's OK to engage the AC clutch or not. If so, I'm surprised that the PP2000 diagnostics finds no problems with the AC system....
