I have a problem with a Cummins N14 engine, Engine S / N 11,979,485, ie fault code 242 (Vehicle Speed Sensor) where every time unit loaded condition, the long uphill road problems arise. I've replaced the sensor repeatedly, check the wiring system as a whole, Cummins Insite read all the parameters are not changed according to the original.
Think about what has or should I do next?, please anyone in DK to help me solve this problem, thanks. :hmmmm2::hmmmm2::hmmmm2:

does it have 1 sensor with 4 pins or 2 sensors with 2 pins each? Make sure the wires are twisted, take a screw driver and make sure the tone ring is not moving, on installing it run it down till it touchs and half turn back off ,
on cummins shop talk it says(Shop Talk
Verify that the feature settings for "VSS Anti-Tampering (Fault Code 242)",
"Application Type" and "Automatic Transmission" are set correctly. If any of these are
set incorrectly, Fault Code 242 could occur erroneously.
Note: Driving techniques, such as driving for extended periods of time in lower gears, could
log Fault Code 242.

Thank you for your fast response, but you've all opinions checked repeatedly and correctly, mechanical and non-mechanical system (setting parameters) checked true. Vehicles running on conditions of low gear for a long time and it is true indeed such road terrain (slope a long), for what it's about tips for that?

Hi Roy,
How low is the low gear?
How many teeth on the tailshaft gear?
When N14 was first released we had do set the parameter "Engine speed without VSS" to high idle speed on all 8 wheel tipper trucks, and heavy haulage trucks and off road trucks, for this problem. The engine ECM looses count of the teeth when in very low gears for a long period of time.
Set engine speed without VSS to a high speed, the fault comes active but no derate, when the driver shifts up a couple of gears the speed sensor picks up again, and the fault goes inactive.
Does the VSS provide the signal to the ECM and also the speedo or tacho?

Yes thank you Jctech, use low gear for about 12 minutes on the second gear, number of teeth TailShaft Gear is 16, VSS two functions ie the first speedo and a second signal to the ECM , I will try to reset the parameter "Engine speed without VSS".
Later on I will submit the results, thank you once again.

Hi all friend,
"Engine speed without VSS", I would liken with a maximum engine rpm is 2100, but the problem still remains the same, is there another way?
Thank for your contribution friends .

Dear all,
Sorry late update status my post.
Problem solved, Sensor Speedo / Tach (P/N. K379-60) is damaged, it is also influential components for Fault Code 242, Features and Parameters all restored original, the unit operating properly.
Thanks to those of you who have contributed suggestions on this my post .
