Hi guys,

I have a 2008 VW Crafter with all keys lost.
I have done quite a few before but this one is a bit special.

2 other locksmiths have attempted this before me and both have failed after they have played with the car, not sure what they did.

I have removed the ECU (EDC16CP34.4) and read the 95320 to get the CS and PIN.
Precoded the transponder but the car does not recognise the precoding or the PIN.

I removed the EZS and made key by Tango.
The PIN code in the EZS is different from the PIN code in the ECU!

With the keys made by Tango, everything is correct except "engine start permitted".

The VIN in the EZS is correct but I could not find the VIN in the ECU.
The only thing I can think of is that somebody killed the ECU and replaced it with a second hand one and walked away (ECU had not been opened).

ECU PIN = 01876
CS bytes from ECU = 98 f2 e2 47 ec 2e c8
MAC = 72 B8 DC 45

EZS PIN = 01995
CS bytes from EZS = ?

VIN of car = WV1ZZZ2EZ86009855

Is anybody able to decode the ECU dump to find a VIN to confirm what i'm thinking?

Cheers

The VIN inside the ecu is VWV1ZZZ2EZ8602910. VIN inside EZS is correct. The ecu has been changed and not adapted.

EZS CS: D3 AB 0B 29 48 F1 8C

Thanks smokey, I'm guessing the only route I have now is to virginise the ECU and adapt it to the car.
Mind you, that ECU could be out of anything!

ECU eeprom looks good. Its even running the latest software version. I would say your probably safe to use it.

It will need other bits reprogramming like injector codes and dpf.

Thanks smokey,

This is the label off the ECU.
Not sure if AVDI can do the programming, pretty sure it should be able to virginise it.

I have a mate with autologic, that should be able to adapt and code it.

Can anyone confirm that EZS MAC is CB 07 FE 1B ,
If is MAC OK I made file for you with all data transfer.

Have you got a vas5054? I dont think avdi will talk to these.

I have one on order but will not get here in time to do the job.
AVDI had the special function for crafter key learning, it works quite well but I don't think it can code ECU's and so on.

I can't see a specific option to virginise the ECU with AVDI, closest I can find is Mercedes Vito or VAG EDC16.
Does anybody know which is the correct one or can the make the dump virgin for me please.

I want to take the dump with me in case Yugo45 file does not work.

Thanks

Use AVDI as a passthru for ODIS and try.
Since I bought genuine AVDI few days ago,I tried ODIS,and it works very well, but I am not so sure about immo functions on Crafter since they are diagnosed with STAR.

You can diagnose Crafter with VCDS and adopt keys , only thig is you have to have working key:

If it was me I would try adopt this with VCDS regular way with CH50 since you have Both Pins, before you do anything. I have filling it will go.
Use procedure for Immo 4 ECU adaptation.

Ok, time for an update on this.

The dump made by yug45 did not work (though it may have, read on for an explanation!).
When I powered up the car the little van immo light was blinking, this goes out after about 3 mins but keys did not turn.

The only way I could get the ignition on was to write a dump created by Tango into the EZS and leave that key in the ignition for approx 10 mins.
This would only work once, at it is correct, it's the way AVDI tells you to make keys to the car.

If power was dropped to the car then the process repeated, it would not unlock the ignition, only the first time after writing the Tango dump into it.

I wrote the original dump back to the ECU (with the incorrect VIN and CS) and got the ignition to turn with the once off Tango method.
Once the ignition was powered up, I could use VSCD to adapt the used ECU to the car.
Car started, no immo lights, happy days.

BUT....

Once you turned the ignition off for more than 3 seconds or removed the key for more than 3 seconds, the ignition would remain locked and the blinking van would appear on the dash.
I noticed the ESL was also not locking or unlocking either.

I worked out that if I put the key in the ignition and powered up the car, it would work until the 3 second thing with the key.

When you remove the key from the ignition, you hear 2 clicks at varying times, between 1 and 2 seconds.

Not sure if it's the ESL or the EZS that if faulty.

SO, maybe yugo45's dump was good, I did not test it with the key in ignition, power up car method.

Thanks everybody for their help on this.

If anybody has any input into the EZS/ESL issu, i'm all ears!

Cheers

I have had similar situation, but not the same in Crafter 2006. We have make the key and adaption ECU without issue, but some times the led blinked and the key turned with delay in release position after 50 (cranked) position. We find the issue in mechanical key, that key is more long and narrow near of hole. Maybe is not your case, but I suggest to find one original mechanical key and make the comparation.

ive had my fair share of fun with these Crafters aswell, had a similar problem a few months back, the EZS was faulty (very common), customer didnt want to spend money on new EZS so had to go down the secondhand road, long story short, i bought 3 secondhand EZS, every single one of them faulty and wouldnt work, so bought a new one, worked fine, customer wouldnt pay for the new one so took new EZS out and told them to take vehicle away. They are so unreliable these Crafters, there like those little Smart Two Four cars, you only have to sneeze on them and you get an instant headache

Funny you should mention those...

Can you read ECU eeprom after you adopted and post it here. I like to see it .

Thanks

If I end up going back to the car, I will gladly do this for you guys.

I'm waiting to hear back if the customer wants me to continue with the rest of the repairs.
