First off wish I came here first before attempting this but of course that is in the past. I believe I corrupted the image I included both with on board and one off the board. If it helps I bought a 2004 Prius US model and have the dreaded 299999 miles that will not continue pass that. Yes it is already titled as not actual mileage. Wish Toyota would have thought ahead with this design. I bought a cheap dash that has 277k miles I believe and was wanted to use that one to reflect 13,911 miles. This is the mileage above the 299,999 mark done off the trip meter. I was not sure if model year 2006 and above would work since they are not plagued with the 299,999. I know that 2004 and 2005 are interchangeable for the dash clusters.

If by chance if someone could see where I mess up or upload a bin with 13,911 miles would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You Jomberykaso I search but could not find a 2004-2005 dump. Also know now it was my fault for not taking off the chip off the board. Just figure if by chance someone had a good dump for a 2004-2005 Prius. It looks like 2006 on up are plentiful.

Taking out my cluster from my car tomorrow and desoldering the 93c66 and going to make a dump and post it here. But if someone has a good 2004 93c66 dump with about 14,000 miles on it would be great so I can swap cluster and be on the road quicker :) .

Thank you for your help. That file the odometer just flashed 51 and looks like speedometer was in km/h and stayed on km/h. Was worth a shot since I had to take apart dash anyways.
Will post my bin file after I desolder off the 96c66 in a while.

i have a dump out of 05 with 150k miles if you needed, also you can use dash out of 06 and up, fits and works just fine, I've done it before due to similar problem.

Thank you, that would give me something to compare mine to also. Almost have this one taken apart but have to pick up my little one.

do you need a software to compare?, because i have one

Finally dump the file, this is the one I am needing to change to 14000 miles.

so JJDEMU use this file from NEOSPEEDO 'user. His file is good for your job.

File is no good mate, read again in 16 bit

here's file from my collection modified to 14k, your dump does look weird.

Big thank you to all you for your help. Think I figure out where the location is for the mileage, I used Tachosoft mileage calculator to figure out the hex bits. I seen what 299999 brought up and it was EF44 and did 14000 and that came up 3703. Looks like it doesn't matter that tachosoft is in km as I think that km and miles are specified in another location in the bin file. The first 2 digits Tachosoft goes in the black, last 2 digits go in the red. Benched test it and it read 13991 miles. If you put in 13991 in Tachosoft it gives you 13991 also, so that software its good for the range. I Installed in car and drive around for about 8 miles to make sure all was good.

data in your file split in 2 parts, did you read as 8bit?? read as 16 next time

The picture is just showing the two files for comparison. The top file is the one I flashed on to the chip.

What's the algorithm used for 2004/2005 Prius? I don't understand how 13991 and 14000 can give the same result? How does the dashboard unit know then?

Mate, when you read this kind of eeprom, read always in 16 bits to get a good file.

Reading out the EEPROM is no problem. I have a little experience in this. But let's say I want to set it to 112.233 km, what is the calculation/algorithm to convert this (to hex)?

Change the 37 03 to c9 19

Well, would you be so kind to enlighten me how you came up with this value of C9 19?

hi mate, algo yazaki17 : 112233/17 = 6601> hex 19 c9 (invert c9 19) x17 times.

Thank you so much. It's really difficult to find explanations for all those special words if you're not deeply involved in the topic. I have the same problem with phones, people talking in cryptic :) I did in fact read dec x17 several times, but thought it meant to XOR it. So, thanks a lot! Oh, is there somewhere a reference for that yazaki17?

Edit: Oh, and is there a byte somewhere that specifies if the value is km or miles?

treysis

So, if I divide the km by 17, it means that I will have the same value in hex for every 17 km. So 13991 and 14000 will be the same. So how does the car know??? There must be another value in the EEPROM for the exact mileage, or at least an additional offset?

13991 = 17 places 0337

14000 = 9 places 0338 and 8 places 0337

9X824 + 8X823 = 14000

@cluster: Wow, that's so cool. Now I understand. Thank you very much! How do you find those stuff on your own, without asking people I mean?

clusters

Studying many dumps, and using brain.exe. ;)

Yeah, well, solving complex equations, no problem, but figuring out patterns has never been my strength.

Another question: So if I drive less than 1 km/mile, how does this get recorded? I cannot believe that if I always drive shorter distances that the odo counter wouldn't increase. What might be the smallest possible distance recorded by the car? Probably it's counting the wheel rotations somewhere?

clusters

In the trip meter addresses which counts in fractions of a Km, when it reaches a full Km it increments one of the 17 locations.

They are of no consequence when calculating for a mileage correction, so they are ignored.

Thanks again!

I've read it is possible to do the procedure without desoldering. But I have to disable/short the quartz-crystal. I guess it is so that the programmer can work with it's own frequency and also the way it is in circuit causes the chip to be in programming mode?!
So, is it possible?

nickolasd

it is very easy to read 06-09 prius dash in circuit, but 04-05 is different for some reason. some tools are better then other, may be your tool will do job just fine.

treysis

I don't have a tool yet. I would build myself for serial interface. Or buy cheap chinese USB programmer. For the car, it's 04/05 model, so...is it really enough to just short the quartz or will it mess up the memory?

Carprog 4.01 clone works fine in circuit.....never i have problem. However i always prefer to remove eeprom then i read it, i verify it and save the original data. After that i can solder it back and test if the other tools i have work or dont work in circuit. (All of this if time lets me do it)

What is best tool for 04-05 and 06-09 Prius mileage correction ? The displays often crap out and need to swap with used/rebuilt ones, but need to adjust mileage sometimes.

Why don't you repair them? You have to disassemble them to program the mileage, repairing them would be easier. Tons of info on the web for the repair procedure.

UPA-S would be the best economical first purchase if you want to do mileage.

HEllo,
I have a 2004 Prius with blocked mileage at 151k km,I think the content of 93c66 is corrupted.
Here is the content readed with UPA-USB offboard
Someone can help me with a good content at 152k-160k ?
Thank you
