Hi everyone,
I own a Renault Clio 3 from 2009, and I found a good bargain on a factory Tomtom navigation with all needed parts, including the display, multimedia controller, wire harness and the radio.
I managed to install the navigation and it's working, but the radio(RENR1B102-00) is giving me a hard time, it displays LOCKED after a 2-3 seconds after startup.
I kept ignition on for more than 3 hours with no succes. After reading on forums that these are VIN locked, I tried to change the VIN number in Can Clip, but cannot change it if it is used part.
So I took it apart, desoldered and read the EEPROM memory ST 24128. I read 3 times to make shure it's the right dump. I opened the dump with hex workshop, found the VIN number once in the dump. Modified it with my cars VIN number and solder it back. When I turn it on, it's stil displays Locked, so I hooked on the Can Clip and the VIN number was missing, the field was clear. And I could write the VIN to the radio, unfortunately it stil displays locked.
Does anyone know what can I do to unlock it?
Many thanks in advance

Hello, the manual does not indicate whether you can disable the code, usually Renault models bring an option to disable the login, but can not find on google user manual for this model. Regards

Thank for your reply
I don't want to disable code, the radio displays LOCKED and remains in that state, I cannot enter the code because of this.

Hi,
it wont do any harm to post dump.
Never seen one before but wondering if the vin is entered twice?
Also is there a 3 digit check sum after vin?
Amother aproch would be to fill vin with ff and see if clip will let you proceed.

Hey Albertros,
I will post a dump as soon as I got back to the garage. The VIN is not entered twice, I have mentioned it in my first post. Also I have mentioned that I modified the VIN number with my cars VIN and wrote it back to the memory, after wich the can clip accepted to assign the VIN number, but the radio still displays LOCKED.
Anyway I was not aware of the checksum you mentioned. Thanks for that. Will post dumps soon.
Cheers.

1. The first is the original reading from the eeprom
2. The second is the one I modified with my VIN number, I was not aware of the checksum , so it is not modified in this .bin file

Hi,
it may be a load of cobblers but the check sum for the Vin in the first file is "6894" which there is on 76 +77h imediatly after the vin.
2nd file check sum = 5F7A
VF1BR2N0640032362 (replace 6894 with 5F7A) in hex.at address 76h +77h
It may not make a difference.
I am wondering if the vin is stored in something else.
There is the option to display the vin numbers in all the computors with clip, not dure if it will incluse all the entertainment parts.

Hey, I'v tried the dump provided by you, replaced the VIN with mine and the checksum. Still displays locked.
Then I filled the entire eeprom memory with FF , then connected displays "Connect diag tool" . In can clip shows "New computer detected" and it is possible to write VIN and reconfigure the radio. Unfortunately after reconfiguring still displays Locked.
It is possible, as you mentioned, that the radio, the navigation, and multimedia controllers are connected between each other.
I'v disassembled the Multimedia controller wich has 93c66 eeprom inside, dumped the contents and it contains the VIN number of the donor car. The checksum is 5FA7 instead of 5F7A. Modified the VIN wich was found twice . Radio still Locked, won't let me to input the code.
Disassembled the Navigation unit, hoping to find an eeprom, but cannot identify any eeprom in it.
The can clip shows the VIN number of the donor car when I acces the Navigation unit details. I cannot modify it, can clip says " VIN number allready programmed".
Does anyone knows how can this be programmed again, or how to reset the eeprom or the Navigation unit ?
Best regards to all

Hi,
got it wrong 5FA7 is correct check sum.
The dump I provided above is from my radio with the vin altered, I was hoping the counter would let you put the code in.
It may help to know the check sum for fffffff... etc is 1F1D but 21 X ff may also work.

I'm really sorry, but I cannot understand your last sentence.
About your setup, do you also have navigation?

Hi,
I don't have nav.
When the vin is blank clip will let you enter a new vin (17 digits long)
I usualy just put 17 FF's but with the check sum thats 21 FF's
If I run 17 FF's in the check sum generator the answer is 1F1D but I don't think it matters.
I may be overthinking this, but the nav unit prob has something to stop cloning upto date mapping.
So if you put the vin thats in the nav in the other (entertainment units) it may work, but then I supose your back to the begining?

Yes, even if you fill the entire eeprom memory with FF, the Can Clip will detect it as a new computer. I've done this to the radio and the Multimedia Controller. They are OK, they have my VIN number. But cannot do to the Navigation because I cannot find the eeprom in it.
The radio is connected to the CAN Network through CAN H and CAN L, and it is listening to those lines for VIN number. The can Network connects all the computers on the vehicle. As the Navigation sends his old VIN, the radio locks himself.
I've found this post (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/showthread.php/525594-Renault-Clio-3-RNR1CX?highlight=renr1b102+instrument+cluster), the guy changed his instrument cluster and the radio locked himself.
So I have to change the Navigation VIN number, until than the radio will lock himself up.
Anyone knows how to change it ? I cannot find an eeprom inside, Can Clip refuses to overwrite VIN for the Navigation.

hi
what's happened if you remove the eeprom?

The eeprom from the radio ? I will try and let you know. My guess is it will not work, just displaying "connect diag tool"
, but I will try

If I remove the eeprom it displays "connect diag tool" and is a dead end.
Any other sugestions anyone ?
I have to rewrite the VIN in the Navigation computer
Thanks!

SOLVED. Today I solved the radio LOCKED issue.
I went back to the guy from whom I bought the Navigation and the Radio and bought the instrument cluster also. It is from a Clio which had a gasoline engine not a Diesel, but I thought it would be worth a try.
As I switched the instrument cluster, the radio stayed on, and LOCKED did not show up. It didn't even asked for the 4 digit code. So, the conclusion is: the radio communicates with the instrument cluster. Maybe the instrument cluster communicates the speed information trough CAN L and CAN H as this radio does not have a input pin installed for speed input. If there is someone, anyone who can explain this, please do!

Possible only needs vin but with some stuff lately it seems to be "pairing bytes" or similar aswell. I am curious about this one (I only have the radios here - no clusters).
What was original vin number for cluster?

Hello,
First of all, what is your radio model?
Does it is wired to the CAN bus?

Hi,
I cant make sence of your request.
The vin in the dump is the same vin as "Good VIN"
The check sum is correct = DCD3
