Yes, but if you have Carprog, he can do it this module trough K line, to clear crash data, not sure about r/w. Module connection:
pin 55 +12V
pin 83 GND
pin 31 K line
For this connection i am not sure 100% but you can check it easy.

l have xprog l just looked and l see l can read it , the board is tight in there tho might need to heat it up l think , never stripped one
can you see where these pins are
pin 55 +12V
pin 83 GND
pin 31 K line
as the pins are not numbers and xprog picture dosnt say alot

XPROGM support only 80 pin CR16, what if is with 44 pins ?
UPA USB support both of them but never hear that someone is read good part of memory in CR16 with 44 pins.

When MCU is in module, you can read/write MCU via K line of module, and you need to connect +12V, GND and K line to airbag module and one pin of MCU need to put in boot (pin 13 of MCU). As is in XPROGM described. You CAN NOT read MCU out of board because of bla, bla...
With XPROGM hardware you are receive K line adapter, marked with this numbers 1-002-0007. This adapter you use for this situation.

just realized l didnt read the number right this is a different kline thing ....
think l will just swap chip when other unit comes

does say modb on it tho ?

Yes, this pin MODB is used to put MODB on Motorola MCU HC11EA9 to ground in BMW EWS3. Here you can use it to put pin 13 ENV0 to the ground, or simply solder this pin on board short to GND.
Same thing.
And now when you are pulled out this airbag board, with om meter (mess.instrument) you can find pin 13 of CR16 MCU on other side of board and make it a good picture and upload it here, so next time is not necessary to open module that deep.

do you think that a dump from a used ecu can be edit to work on this car ? or do l still need to get a dump of this one here ?

I want that you show me where is line to pin 13 on that side of board on yours picture.
I see that is this little complicated for you. If the initially problem with yours original module was hardware nature,
just replace CR16 from one module to another one and finish job. But if problem is in crash data, you must read/write this MCU

You see in PDF document, i send you here, on page 7, second picture ? There is wire, this wire make a short between ground and pin 13 of MCU.
And yours picture and this picture looks to me similar.
Not the same, but similar.
