Question lg surround sound problem, anyone had this prob

i had a lg surround sound system and through my virgin box the sound was glitching, they tried to fix it 4 times and decided to give me my cash back, ok so i bought a newer bigger one from currys, another lg one, guess what, i still have the glitching, i removed the splitter i use for my optical cable and glitching went away, so im guessing i have a problem with the splitter or one of the cables?
i use the splitter so i get true surround sound from virgin box and ps3, is tis a problem i have to live with or do i have to buy new toslink cables.?
2nd question is there a diff between buying the £2 ones or pay extra for the gold plated ones £7 from ebay.
any help on this appreciated as its doing my head in and anyone thinking of getting a system currys are doing a good lg dvd version for £159.97 instead of £200 as its end of line(comes with 2 tallboy speakers)

Why are you using a splitter?????? If you use the optical cable from your tv to surround sound and then connect vbox and ps3 to tv with hdmi you will get true surround sound if that is what the broadcast input is, remember only hd channels broadcast in true surround sound not standard channels. The only reason you need to connect stb and ps3 to surround found Is if tv doesn't have an audio output.

Ok if you don't want to do it that way is the surround sound and tv both arc compatible as that is how my setup is with no notable difference when each component is connected individually....I am assuming the vbox is hd and connected by hdmi,,, if not why not use a monster bundle type cable to connect stb to surround sound with left and right audio and svideo to tv for picture then ps3 with optical audio......Just another thought though are you sure the surround sound settings don't change automatically if receiving from tv instead of direct from ps3 and may just need manually setting to stop them changing...

i farted about with toslink cables and it seems ok, i think best option is to have both in splitter, just a note if one is on stanby the other works, when both are on i gt no sound cos they cancel each other out, dam glitch is back, im gonng to try connected the hd vbox a diff way

Surely you can't watch tv while playing ps3 on the same set anyway unless you have the stb connected to another room by rf out. You won't get true surround from virgin box without optical or hdmi with arc.....By the way you still haven't said if surround sound and tv are arc compatible, if they are you should be able to get surround from virgin via arc which will leave the optical port free for ps3, I'm not sure if the optical connection will overide arc or vice versa as I've never had to try it. By the way I'm using a panasonic surround sound with sony bravia smart tv. Tm stb, wii, xbox and pc all connected and have no issues with surround sound using arc

ok got new virgin box, same problem with sound glitching, it is connected via hdmi as well but the sound wont carry through that to the surround sound, only thing i can do is connect the surround sound to tvvia optical which means i lose true surround sound from ps3, btw my tech knowledge is better than most people, but this has me stumped

The hdmi from vermin box to tv won't put sound through surround sound. As I have said before but maybe not explained myself properly if you want surround sound from vbox with hdmi both tv and surround system must be arc compatible which means audio return and allows sound to travel in both directions along hdmi from tv to surround and back again removing the need for optical cable. Which in turn will leave that port free for ps3. It is likely only one of the hdmi ports on the tv will be arc compatible and it's usually port 1 but any port that is capable of audio return will be labelled. It's not way to see on a sony as it's just a raised part of moulding the same colour as the casing so may be the same on your tv. The same will go for the surround system, it should say above the hdmi port if it's arc enabled.

    ok now i get it.
the tv dont have any hdmi's that say it has 4 hdmi you would think one would be, its a samsung ue 40c5100 .
the lg reciver also doesn't say if its arc either, tried hdmi1 as that is most likely and nothing, the lg reciver is ht806ph.
    thanks happy for the help

If it doesn't state above the hdmi port then it's unlikely that they are arc. I have found that very few descriptions of a product state they are arc compatible which is stupid cause it works very well so googling your product code may not help. Best thing to do is check the instruction manuals.....I know it's not a very manly thing to do but just make sure your missus doesn't see you .
