There are many fake chinese selling 5054a as bluetooth without having BT inside the unit, they also supply the BT adapter even though they know it won't work, the reason for this is simple
a. you will decide to keep it anyways because usb works
b. tell you to send it back and delay you long enough for paypal to no longer be interested, reulting in no unit for you and them having your money and a new unit they will sell to next customer

Default THIS MAY help you - or at least help isolate some of the potential problems

There is a chance the unit has no bluetooth inside it - thats a definite truth as you can buy without BT if required without any issue. DO you have a blue light when powered up, does it flash and does that light change in anyway when you insert the mini usb to laptop connection after the 5054 drivers install.

If the blue light is flashing you probably dont need to worry just yet and it is worth checking into it a but more before giving up. Have you correctly installed the incoming and outgoing ports in 'EDIC hardware', 'edic software', and then finally 'Diagnositc Interface configuration utility'.

You should see - ALL EDIC S installed message in the EDIC hardware box, you should be give a choice of 2 com ports in the software configurator if you set up your bluetooth correct during the intial pairing of bluetooth. follow these instructions to see if this helps

Sometimes the signal is not good , I have been in footwells with my laptop and bluetooth dongle pushed up as close to the oBD socket where the 5054a has been plugged in just to get a signal after a few attempts of connecting. Also check the bluetooth dongle is flashing when in the back of your usb on the laptop as sometimes they get loose and drop in and out of signal and windows does not alert you to usb connecting and disconneting as you maove your laptop around.

Also after the 5054 is installed with drivers you have to go into edic software configurator and change the bluetooth pass number to Level 4 security and enter a minimum 3 digit and 3 letter change to the bluetooth pass i.e from 082145725 to ABC123 - this is a VAS Software requirement unless it has been modified sifgnificantly. You can read about this in the official VAS manuals you find in adminsitration about setting up the bluetooth security level.

EVen if the light on the dongle is flashing - replug it in for every connection attempt as it is supposed to turn of its availability if it is left connected to the obd2 for more than a few minutes to reduce power drain and overheating.

If you have a permanent blue light on the dongle when it is connected to the obd2 then the dongle needs reinitiating which can only be done with a tool they use when they are made. I have this - its just a serial port to female 16 pin and some software.

If you have no lights at all when you plug it in to the OBD2 -it is likely you have a damaged capacitor or blown a mini fuse - again this can be if its been left in the 16pin so long it overheats / vehicle surge etc - but it will need to be returned to the seller unless your good with a scope and solder iron and can replace the problem.

The other problem I am aware of is the dongle flashing blue once and then taking out the IC fuse for the dash - i have only seen this on VW s but that s becuase that particular dongle had this problem when there were only different vw's about to be able to plug into and test it. This was obviously an internal problem with the dongle and thankfully the fusebox s worked to take out the spike the 5054a get throwing into the vehicles. This was a badly soldered board that had spread onto several tracks near the 16th pin entrance.

MAy not help your problem but may help to isolate some of the potential issues so you can make a decision on what to do. Easiest option is to just send it back to the seller - normally it just means a long wait which is the problem with buying long distance but it may be the easiest and only option for your own situation. Anyway hope it helps.

I will try the options you mention and hopefully that will resolve my problem, becasue EDIC Software Configuration does not conect to the hardware.
