I have a relatively serious problem.
I've managed to loose my Drive Key for my BenQ drive in my Elite.
The dumped .bin got corrupted and the flash failed.
I now have a XBox 360 Elite that can play DVDs and no games (other than downloads on the HDD).

Can anyone help me out, I know this was my fault, and I thake the full responsibility. And I also knew that this was a possible scenario.
But if anyone can help me, I'd be extremely thankful.

If the drive is scrapped, is possible to replace the drive or use a pre-flashed .bin to refresh it?

Or is it "new" XBox time?

Do you have the original bin file?

Should be named something along the lines of orig.bin. If so your ok, if not and you never saved it anywhere then sorry sounds like your sbox is now just a dvd player

No, that's the file that got corrupted during the installation, causing a bad flash.
So I can't even use it to re-install it to factory settings.

Try reading it again off the drive, there has to be some info there for it to use as a dvd player, but sounds like you not spoofed ur key...

Sorry mate but if you not saved it anywhere then its lost. I dont know of any way to recover the key, i hear ms actually insert a new 1 onto box on drive in this instance.

Forgot to mention in your case, i have heard of forcing a rrod and sending it back to ms, they then fix it, incuding the bad flash, but again its only hear say.

It's one of the first UK Elite models, and it's had a good life.
I think I'll just save up and get a pre-flashed arcade system.
I feared I'd done it in.

or get a new arcade with a liteon and flash it yourlsef, keep all your hdd and stuff.

Sorry to hear whats happened but you should always make a back up copy of your orig.bin as will have all the drive info the xbox wants.

I'm still curious about this "inducing the 3 red lights" idea.
Has anyone ever done this, and Microsoft repaired it, or is it just a theory?
And if it does work, as in MS fix the RROD and also sort out the drive, could anyone assist me in euthanizing my Elite this way?

Its only what i have read in forums over at nzbmatrix, theres some very good xbox hackers over there, but think they will tell you the same that if you not got your key then its screwed.

Another idea is that you could recover the corrupted .bin file.

Was it the 1 file that got corrupted or the full hdd you werre using?

If its the hdd, then try doing a recover on the hdd. IF you never saved it at all then will be screwed, as said before, pull the firmware off the drive to check key again.

What program did you use to flash it?
Jungleflasher asks you to save logs, if you did you could be in luck.

Try to see if you can get another dump off it. Thats the only way or if you can recover the original corrupted one. Im afraid its gonna be a doorstop. But there getting really cheap now with the lite on drive now doable.

The event went as thus:

I dumped the .bin using DosFlash32, and saved it onto the desktop of the PC I was using.
I then tried to install iXtreme directly onto the BenQ directly before making a hybrid of the two files.
Of course this failed, giving me a BenQ drive that is able to play DVD videos, but not games.
I tried again, but I clicked the wrong button in DosFlash32, overwriting the original .bin file I saved with the "dud" one in the BenQ.
In effect "I" deleted the backup, replacing it with an unusable .bin with no drive key.
It wasn't until just after I clicked the button I realized what I'd just done, and it was too late.
In my defense I was at my friends and in deep conversation during the process.
In hindsight I should have concentrated on what I was doing, but we all go into "autopilot" sometimes.

That's a pretty good guide, but it looks terminal for this Elite.
It would have been nice to be able to access my dirve key from somewhere else, to which I'm sure it exists, based on the fact the XBox checks it. So in theory, it would have a reference for said check.
But, like all these things, it was a gamble, and this time I lost.
It was just an experiment, as I rarely used my Elite, and I just wanted to breath some life into it.

I've got my PS3, Wii and my Mac to keep me amused until I can afford another XBox 360 to butcher.

But unless Microsoft are willing to allow an "opened" console in for free repairs, I doubt I'll be using this machine again.
I have sent MS an e-mail enquiring about the warranty status of "opened" machines and the RROD, and if they say "yes" I'll cook the thing with the fans unplugged/jammed until it dies.
But I'm not holding my breath on that. I think I'm better buying a Core or Arcade machine already flashed.

What I meant is the DosFlash32 deleted it, and overwrote it with the failed flash .bin from my BenQ.
I was trying to restore the original file, but I didn't realize that DosFlash32 was in Write mode until it was too late. When it asked me if I wanted to overwrite, I naturally assumed it meant the file on the drive.
