Get yourself a vpn that is uk based. That way you end up with a uk based ip address so can use any 'uk locked' service.

You could possibly also use a proxy but they tend to be rather too slow for streaming. A reasonable vpn will cost around the £5 per month mark. Free services are usually far too slow and variable to be of much use.

An alternative that might be possible is for you to find somebody who wants services that are local to you but also geographically locked. In that case you may be able to set up a co-operative vpn link between your two machines so you both get what you want. You would both require fairly fast internet though (>5Mbit/sec upload & download).

I use Realhide IP.. wwhich is a bit crap but cost me £18.. it sometimes works with BBCiplayer, but deffo not 4OD.
I used to use hidemyass on my old lappy, but didnt want the ads on new lappy... it sort of worked a bit.
Please tell me/us the best thing to use.

I use noirvpn dot com it's not uk based tho ( fr, ge, us and ca) but like the sound of the share bit.
However, a vpn provider is the key here... with mine, its cheap at 5 euro a month, very fast, no ads, never a drop out and after the first year being up, a no brianer for another year...fine for me.

Special Packages - Yearly - This offer may be closed at any time. Order now to secure your package | StrongVPN.com

Something like the $85 packages ($7/£4.55 per month) would likely do all that you require. You get your own static ip and can also switch servers from UK to US fairly easily if you tire of iplayer and want a US based service.

You could maybe also use the pptp only package ($55 - $4.60/£2.94 per month) but pptp can be far more fiddly to set up behind routers than OpenVPN.

    http://www.usaip.eu/en/free_vpn.php

They offer a 1 day test package - handy for checking if will work. Or, you could try the free connection but that disconnects every 7 minutes and is very speed limited (stil useful to test configurations though).

As a bonus, all your traffic through a VPN is encrypted so your ISP cannot monitor anything you do.

A list of some other vpn service providers can be found at -
    Virtual Private Network - Cship

The list is quite dated now (most of the free ones have long gone) but thats actually quite a good thing as any that are still working are probably reasonably ok.

Like al things some are good, some are bad and some are downright diabolical. Unfortunately, often the only way to find out which is which is to try them and see.

You have got another VPN option, really easy to use. You can even set VPN on your iPad with them, it's called TunnelBear and it costs $5/month, and you can both choose an UK or US VPN service at the same package.

    Cheers!

The whole point of the VPN is to make it appear as if you are in whichever country you need to be in order to get the service. For the BBC iPlayer service you would use a uk based VPN and thus appear to be within the UK regarless of where you actually reside.

Only trouble with the Hotspot Shield is that it seems to be bundled with spyware, not too sure Channel 4OD works on it either now.
Best bet I guess is to go for a paid service, but one that's cheap enough.
I saw this one for 2.99
