Default Dreamup probs when using USB to Serial Cable - any ideas?

    Hi

I wonder if anyone can help me

I have a dreambox and am trying to connect to it from my PC. I bought a Null Cable as per the instructions (but then found out I had no Serial Port on my PC). So I bought a USB to Serial Convertor and then connect that to the Null Cable.

Now I have installed Dreamup, but cant seem to get beyond the screen that says "Connection prepared - now switch on the Dreambox". When I power up the dreambox (and wait and wait) nothing seems to happen, as if the Box isnt being recognised.

Does anybody know why I am not getting a connection? I wonder if it is something to do with my IP Address. My PC is 79.97.XX.XXX and I dont know what to put in for the Dreambox?

By the way - would my problem have anything to do with the fact that in Dreamup it wants to know which COMPORT I am using - when in actual fact I am using a USB connection?

    Any help gratefully received

Default That worked - now to next step

Thanks for that. I have made more progress in the last hour than since Monday.

I had to find a correct Driver for the USB to Serial port - but a quick search on google did the trick and your help on changing the Comport was also crucial.

Now that I have uploaded the new Image - do you know what I have to do to get access to all the channels? I connect via NT* in Dublin. I have heard someone mention that I have to change the keys each day - but not sure how this is done - is there a link that someone has to the guide on how to do that?

    Thanks

CSCAL where did you get your USB to serial converter? I had problems with this myself, tried all the advice the guys on here gave me but, still nothing...im presuming its the USB to serial converter itself thats either faulty or poor quality so would be good to know where you got yours.
    cheers

I also could not get my usb to serial adaptor to work on my laptop. I gave up in the end and used a very old pc I had lying around that had a proper serial port. I have since read that some of the very cheap usb to serial adaptors already have their wiring "crossed" so will only work with ordinary serial cables as a null modem cable will "uncross" the wiring again. Hope this makes sense. I don't have a standard serial cable so I have not tried it myself, but would be interested if anyone else can get it to work.

If you have an old PC with serial-port & use null-modem cable
only it is much easier. If you have to use USB-RS232 cable you
have to have correct driver for it to work with dream-up. I had
USB-RS232 cables which came with installation CD. They flashed
every diff make of cable box & D-box no problem but would not
work with Dream-up. I use old PC with Dream-up no problem.
It's also vital to have correct com-port setting on your PC
