If DHCP is ticked, the nameserver should be different as it's assigned by your broadband provider.

Disable DHCP, save and reboot.
Assign a static ip address and enter router ip in default gateway, save and reboot.
(forget about the nameserver bit)

Hopefully that should work.

in this case you will need to get an ethernet crossover cable and read up on ICS (internet connection sharing)...

Look here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306126

you can buy a cheap router for about £30 though, far easier... honestly, you will thank yourself for it later..

Question dreambox as cable modem?

Hi all,

I have now officially had it with the dbox2 as the tuners keep packing up. If it aside form that - great bit of kit. Anyway, I was going to buy a dreambox (500c probably) when I had a thought!

As dreamboxes run Linux, have a cable feed and network connectivity, can't they work as a cable modem; then have direct Internet access itself and act as a router for other devices to connect?

Sorry if this all sounds a bit silly but it must be possible by running a modem emulator as a background task or something?!

Cheers,

Rob

Is the dreambox 500c pretty much the same as the dbox2 in practical terms?

Cheers,
