Default How do I connect dreambox to pc

    Hi there,
Having trouble connecting pc to dreambox500-c
have tried to follow this tutorial.
it seems to be very good.

How to Connect your Dreambox to your PC

however when i try to connect using flashfxp.exe
it connects and after a few seconds it disconects.
says it will retry in 120secs

I have used the ip numbers as shown in the tutorial .
Am i supposed to change them to my own numbers.

any info would be greatly appreciated

are you connecting via router or network cable ????

if connectin via router make sure the box ip is in the same range
    as your router

network cable make sure you give pc a static ip summat like
192.168.2.3,then on box set ip like 192.168.2.4,then restart
    the network

    i hope this helps...

you beat me to it mark

your dreambox communications settings must be set to dhcp. Then it will get an IP from the router automatically. Use that IP. BTW, the router must be set to DHCP server also so that it will generate IPs for other connected devices...

The first part of that guide states what is required...

    What is needed

If your dreambox is going to be connected straight to your PC then you will need a crossover ethernet cable. This is not the same as a standard patch ethernet cable that you get with your router or cable modem, the send and receive wires are crossed, hence the name. This cable is more commonly used to connect ethernet equipped PCs together without a hub or router. But we need it to connect to the dreambox as well.
Do you have a crossover ethernet cable? You cannot connect to the dreambox via ftp using a null modem cable. A null modem cable is only used for flashing images with Dreamup.

    thanks lads.
I was tired and probably missread everything

have being trying to ftp using a null modem cable. This is obviously the wrong cable.

yere info suggests null mdem cable is only used to to use dreamup.exe to flash the box with a new image if box does not work or dies.

to ftp a fix i will need a cross over ethernet cable.
(i will have to get one of these.)
    Have I got it now?
    Can ye confirm the above.

thanks again to Devilfish;mat989 and mark015

    That is correct.

You can get the cable on ebay for few quid. Maplin, PC world and argos probably sell them but will obviously be more expensive.

The box doesn't need to be dead or faulty before you can use Dreamup, you can flash using dreamup and null modem cable any time you want.

If you are connecting your dreambox directly to your pc, use an ethernet crossover cable.

If you are connecting your dreambox to your router, and your pc to your router, use a standard patch cable for each connection instead (some routers can also auto-detect crossover cables and work with them)
