Only if you are keen to learn the electronic of DMbox.
Preferbly asa u got the box. It backs up the working binary files of the FLASH CHIP(the working code of the Dreambox). When the box die due to virus, corruption,wrong file input, you can always bring the box back to it original factory default. Jtag is a powerful tool although it might be 10> years old. Jtag is a study by itself, what posted is for DM500C/S/T only.

What are DM600? seldom mentioned in the forum.
It not a good model, u can forget about it.

I dont find much difference, both worked which is the important things, both hv their pros and cons. Just like driving a Hyundai vs a Toyota, you get to the place you want in 1 piece. may be slower or nice shape, depends.

My last resort was to blow off the a3 inches of dust of an old p3 box which has not been used and sitting in the storeroom. Dont even know why i kept it in the first place???. So I told u so, wife - It will be of use one day some day - and it is today

Amazing !! sincerely think dmboxes need to be upgraded in this respect of null modem and serial port connectivities. How many of us actually have a good working p3 or p4 sets?

Ron, glad you got it running. You are blessed to be in a developed country. Try telling that to Somali where half the people are still using P2 to surf the net. Comport to them is a blessing too, to update their DM500S to view EuroSat.
Anyway, most new STB are USB upgradable now and comport may be history.

Hi chriswu, I'm new here and am currently waiting for my 500c to arrive. I guess you need to read through the forum to understand the box a little more? From what I've picked up from a few threads, you need to flash an image because the stock one has very limited capability. As for which one to flash, there's a few out there - PLi, Gemini, etc. Just google and you should be able to find some images to download. After that, you may need to install mgcamd to manage your keys or something. *pls correct me if i'm wrong. Last thing to do should be to setup the bouquets (still unclear what it's for) and get the keys (no idea where to get). Hope this helps

hi people, i am faced wif a problem on my box. I guess is my itchy hands did it. I accidentally pressed on the key editor page using the remote and when i on my box the next morning, totally black. only the FTA channels r on, others all darkened. i asked the my friend, he said can't save. which i tink it is crap, so i am lookin for some help over here. my box should be a DMC500 and the software inside is from PLi images, jade. Hope some1 could gif me a solution. been reali down on luck, coz everyting spoilt. so hope tis can b salvaged....

Woah.. congrats.. u just tested the Panic Button add-on DM500C?

Now u probably need DreamUP, a working image, PC with RS232C COM port and a null modem cable.

Hi all,

Need help for dm800c!
My dm800hd-c with loaded software. (image file + ccam + keylist) was unable to see even FTA channels. When i switch on the set, it shows loading in the lcd screen, then after loading, it shows tuner failed.
Unable to watch any channel.

Can the expert here teach me how to solve the problem?
