As for my experience on any box that i purchased i will do the reading 1st than slowly experiment & add whatever i can afford to the box, only when problem occurs or something i don't understand then i will post question/answer for solution.
Sorry if u think this post is harsh or unhelpful enough, no point asking question when u don't even know your box spec
    sorry my bad..

i was actually talking about the dm800hd-c

    so the post should be:

I am testing it.... it is plug and play just open up the box and remove the HDA tray and install the HDA there and plug in the sata cables and power cable into the box board (See DM800 guide). As you see from my previous posts, when using newnigma2, the box will hang and need a hard reset during playback. I am still trying out different s/w to see which one will work..... hope can find a good s/w with good recording function... If successful I will update here (PS: Hope it is not the harddisk problem)

Any internal SATA 2.5 hdd should work. Size depends on how much of recording you want to do, right?

For me, I'm using usb, but I haven't tried PVR, don't really need to record.. and usb should be much slower..

I too still experimenting with dm800 recording. It not perfect but at least it record whats wanted n must hard patient toying with it during playback. Dont expect maricles, this box is actually a 'TOY', not Pro equipment. Everytin is so so n i hv no complains.

i'm using a 320Gb 5400rpm 2.5" hdd with no problems with playback and recording so far.... dont need those super 7200rpm hdd which creates more heat problems.

thing to note is that when u install the hdd, the cage tends to sag and hdd will sink down and stop the fan from spinning.
you have to put some cardboard from bottom of cage to push it up.

ventilation is also reduced, so i use an external laptop cooler to keep the box cool. anyway, the clone box quality is very bad, after 6 months of use, the fan will spoil even if you dont install hdd.

also, remember to set the hdd to go to sleep after xxx min.

notebook hdd MTBF is not high, will up lorry very fast if spinning 24/7

i notice that the recent batch from my supplier is using a big heatsink only. no fan. but the HS is sooo big, it block the hdd cage area. so looks like e-sata is the way to go for those box version

I agree with 'tinkerb', HDD worn out fast. Most important is Heat! Box hang also due to heat. Try connect Sata ext hdd will help too. Dont worry, i connect n reconnect hdd sata ext box dont damage but need reboot. I plat the recorded program with a mediaplayer rather than dm800 for better faster selection n leave box free to view live chns.

Ya mine is with the big heat sink and actually has to bias the hdd to the end before tightening the screws if not the cables cannot squeeze into the box

so in this case, is the connector or cable badly squeezed? that can result in data problems.

maybe you can do a test run with the cables loose and hdd out of the casing to see if the recording and playback is good.
