    Default Loading Kernel

    Hi everyone,

I tried updating my dbox image about 6 months ago and after the process the dbox won't boot up. It comes up the commando logo on the dbox lcd and then freezes with a message loading kernel. I have read around a bit and the advice others are getting is to try to reflash with IFA which I have attempted. I have a crossover network and null modem leads and a USB serial adapter (since my PC has no serial port built in) and can't get the box to flash. For some reason there seems to be no output to the serial port which I have deifinitely verified is com7 (I can see the description in device manager is USB serial adapter). It seems like too much of a coincidence that the box should have a hardware problem as it only stopped working when I attempted to flash. Anyone got any ideas?

    Cheers
    Gary

    Hi gashoneil

I am no expert on this problem, I had the same problem.

This how I fixed it, it might not work for you but give it a go.

1.) Started DBox II - Bootmanager.
    2.) select correct com port.
3.) select the image you wish to upload (Utilities -> image Flashen)
4.) unplug the dbox (leave for 20 seconds)
5.) Press Start on Settings then Plug in Dbox again.

The first upload took about 15 minutes, the progess is shown in COM-terminal.
when it is finished you have to unplug the dbox , when I plugged mine again it was back up and running.

    Goodluck

if you have installed drivers for the usb to serial you need to set the comport for it to use in .devise manager

Thanks to both of you, unfortunately still no luck. I have checked the device manager to ensure I have used the correct com port (it us currently com4, though it changes when I switch usb port) and even using hyper terminal I am getting no output from the dbox com port. I will try to find another serial device to test the serial adapter (though I don't think I have one!).

One thing I have tried is holding the up arrow when powering the dbox on and this makes my dbox lcd display some text other than the commando, but it isn't readable as the display is a bit corrupt.

Anyone any other ideas? Com port is set to 9600 rate, data bits 8, parity none, stop bits 1 and have tried all settings for flow control.

When using a serial adaptor you have to set it to comm port 1 in device manager.

    cheers

I had the same problem, i ended up flashing an image using null modem only, via hyperterminal, a more risky way of doing it but it was the only thing that would work, ifa and dbox bootloader weren't giving me any results.
