can you boot in safe mode and then use your av to scan for virus infections

once you boot in safe mode run the installed a/v on your pc, not the cd, it should then find any infections.

OK i downloaded exterminateitsetup to a memory stick and then downloaded it to the PC malwarebytes, and some others wouldn't open so i used this one, problem is on scanning its picking up virus vundo, and more then 10 minutes into scan it picks up more and then just shuts down.when i put the stick back in my PC avira alerts me to a intrusion worm and blocks it,id say dis pc is needs to be wiped but i dont have a disc.

i see there is avira installed and what you are saying is that it will not run in safe mode.
wiping the drive might be the best solution.

If windows starts so does all your viruses, (some even in safe mode!!)
Your not meant to run a rescue cd on safe mode m8, its linux,
change the bios so that it boots up on rescue cd,
If that fails to work, download Kaspersky Rescue Disk - Load Kaspersky AntiVirus 2009 Using DOS
from another computer and try again,
Details on how to run it are on the site.
Let us know how you got on!!

Default Boot cd

Hi Paddy

Have you tried the avast bart cd?
This runs in linux with with the latest AV defs on a flash drive. I have used this when nothing else works as it dose not depend on windows. You should find a copy of it on a DL site on google or rapidshare. You will also need the latest defs from Avast. These can be found in the program data folder 400.vps, copy them to your flash drive and off you go.The avast program will prompt you what to do.
You will become an instant virus pro and loved by all the girls.

Enjoy
