Default £250k a week is not enough

SAMUEL ETO'O'S £25million move to Manchester City is in danger of collapsing because of the Barcelona star's greed.

The Cameroon star is set to become the highest-paid player in the world by pocketing £250,000 a week for the next four years if he joins City.

But he is demanding a £12.5m signing-on fee and that could scupper the deal at the last minute.

Eto'o's agent Josep Maria Mesalles said: "If there is not a 180-degree turnaround then he will stay with Barcelona."

Catalan giants Barca were ready to let their star striker, 28, go for a cut-price fee because he only has one year left on his contract.

President Joan Laporta appeared resigned to losing Eto'o on Sunday when he revealed the hitman has a stratospheric offer from City.

But SunSport can reveal Eto'o believes he is entitled to pocket the extra cash because of the way Barcelona seem to be driving him out of the Nou Camp.

Eto'o is not prepared to miss out on the huge signing-on fee he could expect if he saw out his contract and signed for a club of his choosing next year and is therefore asking for that money now.

It is unclear whether that cash would come out of the fee City cough up or whether the Arab owners of the Eastlands club will be forced to shell out more money.

Meanwhile, City's Brazilian star Elano is demanding showdown talks with boss Mark Hughes when he returns from holiday after Confederations Cup duty.

And it is almost certain they will end with the 28-year-old being told he can go, with Inter Milan keen on signing him.

i dont think it is greed, i think its more of an insult payment.
Barcelona are trying to force him out, a team he has devoted his career to so no wonder he is pissed his goal record has been fantastic. So all his hard work they say "nope we dont want you no more" not many will score 30 goals a season.
So he is already worth alot cash so whoever can afford him, dam right he wants a severence pay off especially to a non cL team like city.
End of the day he wont take 250,000 home you got half that in tax. if they can suposedly offer kaka 500,000 no wonder he is holding out.

Its difficult a season ticket holder seeing these things and the money these folk get on a daily basis, the working mand game that once was is well dead, the longer the money escalates the more the death of football will become.

It will implode, sooner than later. I dont blame any man wanting to better themselves, everyone should.

He's signed a new contract with barca now. It's not about money, it never was, otherwise he'd have gone to City, so would Kaka. It always revolved around City not being a big enough club, something City chief exec Gary Cook could never understand. City have tried paying over the odds for world class player, but world class players want to play for a world class team. Instead, City have to pay over the odds for the likes of Craig Bellamy and Gareth Barry, who wouldn't get into the United Arsenal or Chelsea teams.

Fair Liverpool had Bellamy and wanted Barry, but it's been 20 years since they won the league, enough said.

As mentioned above i dont think it was about the money.. Eto didnt want to leave, hence the reason he stuck in a stupid wage demand.. City cant reach a deal, Barca cant sell so Barca are happy for him to sign a new contract..

Man City will learn that money wont buy them anything.. Chelsea had already come good the season before Jose arrived..

Players will join City and leave after a year when they realise all they will be involved in is a mid table battle..

Cue Elano to leave followed by anyone else of quality at the end of next season

Champions League clauses are being talked about in the press..

of course its all about the money.

example Mr Cristiano Ronaldo, played for his boy hood hero's yes sporting, the club he loved and followed as a kid, didnt want to play for no one else, (video's and media to support this)

Next thing he at man utd , saying same thing always wanted to play for utd, thats why he signed.

And now were is he over at real madrid, and again there media and video's to back it up greatest club in land always wanted to play for madrid, next he will be kissing the badge etc.

Now come on money talks and we all know it.

If company abc says we double ur pay me,you and joe bloggs will move. You not going to say nope i will stay on here 3-4 year loyal service, i want to work here.

Give it a few years and he be in italy doing same thing.

Had many a discussion on this, in pub and it always gets brought up, and its not just him, the list is endless.

You play for the jersey, and not the money.

After all what do they get paid full year, injured still paid, bad injury visit usa to get top surgeon,(still paid for), season finished, and still getting paid.

Am sure if i went it to work tommoz with torn ligement, they will send me away fully paid, to see top doc, 1-2 month rest and full pay.

And then he has cheek to moan or salander manager when he gets subbed.

I would like to see a cap stuck on earning and transfer fees. Its getting beyond control, clubs out there are just going to go down, as cant compete.

The trouble is, City don't realise that they're embarrassing themselves going for all these top names and offering stupid money, only to get turned down. The only players they can sign aren't of the same quality. I think Hughes realises this, but he's got to pander to the egos of the owners.

Rumours are that City only got Robinho cos he was told "Manchester" want you, and he thought it was United. Everything was rushed through as it was a deadline-day deal, and when he arrived he was wondering why everything was blue! Hence he sacked his agent immediately after.

250k a week, i would not give a single player that much a year... its disgusting... money money money, its ruining the game... Rupert Murdoch gets rich with the players and the teams end up selling their souls to try and keep up... Way to many teams are in the shite at the moment over this blinkered policy...
