Hi Guys

i was wondering whats the best way to connect a dm500s to a online PC?

My PC is online 24/7, so can i connect my dm500s to my pc and establish a internet connection that way?

i know you can connect the dm500s to a router, but just wondering if you can connect this way?

also what software will u need to do it if possible?

do you no what image/firmware is on the box
if not go to
menu>information>about
set the ip address on to some thing near to the local ip address of pc in
menu>setup>expet setup>comunication setup
then put an ethernet or crossover cable from the router to dreambox
then it should be internet ready
or in comunication setup tick the dhcp box then save then reboot the box and again it should be internet ready to download addons ,plugins or keys

hi mate.. you DB does not need to be connect to your PC.. it needs to be connected to your router.. this way the DB can talk to the PLi server.. you can log into your DB from your PC this way as it connects via the router..

I use DCC (Dreambox Control Centre) to log into my DB from my PC over my LAN

Well my setup a home (because the house is rather big ) I got cat 5 cables running from the router into the living rooms & bedrooms connected into 5 port hubs and then run into the dreambox, this leaves extra ports for other things like Playstation or Xbox, I do this because I have noticed in the past Wifi can be interupted greatly when you have a good few wifi connected hardware such as notebooks, PDA's & printers especially when C/S.... Once every thing is connected I can logon via a number of computers around the house everything is online 24/7 running through one router, the only limits are the number of ports on the rear or the router which is normaly 5 but by using Hubs you can extend this hardwiring if need to 25 easly....but you will never need all of this..This method is great if you have more than one Dreambox ....

Hardwiring is still better than some wifi connections especially if you have a number of wifi devices running around the house at the same time ...

Alun

bloddy'ell alun!

thats one mighty impressive set up you have there!

point taken about the wifi connections, just like most wifi internet connections..they tend to drop now and then.

im looking to connect to my router via wireless access from my pc, and then hardwire via a cat 5 cable from router to the DM.

will dreambox control center work ok this way?

cheers.

i use a couple of these
plug one into port on router then plug into mains then another one in a different room
then it uses your wiring hard wired
