You will need to load an image if it does not come with one preloaded and yes you need to load it with the Gbox C***S*****G software.

You can use any image as long as it is for Dm500, DK1 will do fine.

you need to load any software onto a dreambox m8.

you can use a program called dreamup and a serial cable (my preferred method)

you can ftp it to the dreambox and use commands to flash it

or you can use a program called flash wizard pro, which is the fastest way to flash when it works, but fails a lot of the time and you end up needing to use dreamup to recover it.

as for image wise i prefer nabilosat0.8 maxvar (avaiable in the downloads), keep away from gemini images cos if your box is a clone gemini will kill it
