Hi folks,

We should now be active on the new server. Obviously there's going to be some teething problems so please let me know in this thread if something isn't right.

Yes we moved just before the cable hit but we struggled with all the guests and people couldn't log in.

We've now got a bigger and better server which should easily cope next time.

is the storage RAIDED ?

I find RAID 10 best performance and fault tolerance when dealing with a disk with alot of read and writes (especially database servers)

8 GB is sufficient, its only when you stick Windows on it that it becomes an issue, due to the fact Windows underlying memory management is very inefficient (and frankly shit) and you tend to have alot of memory leaks.

Shut us down...no! When VM change the keys, more people come on the forums looking for a fix and that's when I get to tweak the server for better performance and can see if it's going to withstand the load.

8GB RAM is more than we actually need to be honest.

Hdd is not in a raid, I know that's far better and more efficient but added to the monthly cost by quite a bit.

The next step might be two server, one for database and one for web but it's all money, money, money!
