Default Astra automatic transmission fault. Advice please

I have a old P reg astra the automatic transmission "s" light comes on and flashes now and then and the gears then need to be changed manually. It only happens once or twice a week. The transmission oil was recently changed in the hope that it would rectify the problem but it still has the same fault.
I came across a web page which said to clean the gearbox selector switch. Does anyone have any experience of this?

Thanks

ps if anyone has an electronic workshop manual for a P reg automatic astra estate can you let me know please?

'evenin. Just read your bit about your auto box playing up. We've got the same fault, usualy in cold or damp conditions, and the now the novelty has worn off it's getting a bit boring! Did cleaning the selector switch do the trick , and do you mean the switch on the gearbox end of the cable or the gear lever end ?

Keep warm & well, thanks for your time.

just buy a new selector switch and try it there are only £150+vat.

Or if you are a pieky, disconnect battery, leave in d all the time, link out the starter, don't park where you need reverse thrust and see what happens.

Thats what we've bin doin up till now, but it seems to have got worse, and wont reset itself. Also just noticed that jigiling the gearshift when in reverse mode makes the reversing lights intermittent, this all logicaly points to loose or out of adjusted cable/switches/linkages.,but then again, what do I know !
Thanks for your help , Keep warm & well
