Hi to all, iv got a focus which im trying to program the remote fob, tried many times to get the car into programing mode (ignition from position 1-2 4 times in 6 seconds) as described on autodata and ford TIS with no joy, does anyone know if all 2002 focuses come standard with remote locking or not?, or where im going wrong?

try ign off to ing 2
a beep MUST be heard before pressing remote button
simple possable causes of not going in prog mode
a door/boot/bonnet not reporting closed to GEM unit
if beep heard after turning key 4 times within 6 secs
but no beep after press remote button fault with remote
possable causes battery contacts next to remote battery require bending up slightly/flat remote battery/faulty remote

thinking back i think the bonnet was up!, its a CL model, it does have central locking which works with key in door, but im not sure if all 2002 focus came with "remote" central locking its a brand new key fob.

GEM unit has label on it with part number + short discripion
IE cdl/alarm etc

a quick test for testing if door etc are reporting closed is

rapidly press bonnet pin switch horn should sound
then open + close all door bonnet boot horn should sound once for each
door boonet boot opened

well, just found out that it hasnt got remote locking (got it checked with the vin on ford microcat) and iv already got a remote fob and key, lesson learnt!!, next question is does anyone know if i add a second hand door entry remote control unit will it work in the car? is it a simple plug in and program job? or is it not worth the hassle?

remote locking is in the GEM unit not cheap also wiring maybe incorect

does the GEM unit control PATS also? as i have seen a used unit for £20 delivered, my year, remote compatable?

just an update, got a second hand GEM unit from a same year focus which had remote locking, swapped it with mine and programed it in no problems, remote locking works fine now, a good mod if your focus does not have remote locking!
