Default Ford focus 1.8 dtc p0301 help please?

Hi al,

newbie here, was advised to join by a fellow member of another forum for your expert help and advice.

OK, my dad has this 2002 focus with a p0301 error code.

Cyl n0.1 misfire error.

I`ve done a search on a well known search engine for information and advice and got some useful information.

I am looking for advice on where to start to diagnose and fix in a scheduled manner.

I have read that that change the injector from cyl 1 to 3 or 4 to see if the problem moves with the injector, clean the MAF sensor, check compression, make sure crankcase is not under vaccuum etc...

Anyone advice on what to check first and so on so i can try to fix in a systematic manner,

Thanks in advance fr any advice offered.

Best regards, glyndwr1998.

Spark Plug
Ignition Lead
Coil Unit - common on all Fords

Keep it simple and don't overlook the obvious.

if it is a petrol engine there are 3 air hoses under inlet manifold with 2 of them usually splitting and drawing in air, replacement kit is of 3 breather hoses. 1.4 engine.

If it's diesel you may find the injectors are coded to each specific cylinder so moving will do no good if they are coded it's possible the ecu got corrupted (jump start, battery issues that may have occurred around same time?). We have in the past recoded/rematched the injectors to the ecu to cure such faults.

Ok, if its not coil pack then be careful, there is a program connected to fuel sender that tells the ecu vehicle low on fuel this creates a miss fire, hence go to petrol station. Have been know to go faulty for no reason.
Hope this helps !

Default Focus diesel

1 check compression on No1 cylinder
2 Could be faulty injector - but beware injectors on this
model ( i think) are coded and need to be set up
with specialist diagnostic equipment

Again, thanks for your advice.

Yes smirnoff mate, the coil[ack has been changed for an original ford one, as i was told aftermarket ones are crap.

Also, the ignition ht leads and plugs have been changed.

Thanks for your help.
