Unhappy USB-Serial adapter not picking up EX1000SL on my computer

I was half expecting this problem after reading a few threads on the subject. As I haven't got a serial adapter I had to go down this route.
I installed the drivers for Vista and it picked up the adapter it even tells me what COM port it's assigned to (COM8 at the moment). I went into device manager and it shows up assigned to the correct COM Port, but it does not show up in my computers.
There is 1 blue light on my Eurovox EX1000SL which is a power light but no digits on the front.
So I'm guessing unless the computer sees the Eurovox theres no way of flashing it.
Please help!.
Thanks

I have tried re-assigning it to COM1 and no success.
What am I doing wrong?.
Will the box show up as an external drive if correctly connected?.

Hi Mate,

Firstly have you got the correct cable?? (null modem cable) did the cable come with it's own software? the reason I am asking is that I had the same problem but can be sorted.

when looking in device manager is there any warnings on the com ports if so run the disc that came with your cable if you got one. my disc had loads of different drivers on it let the computer pick the correct one. My ex1000 did not like com 7 go into the advanced properties and chance to com3 (mine stated it was in use but i used it anyway do this at your own risk!!)after i done this i was able to flash the box.

Make sure you use the correct firmware should take no longer than 5 minutes
firmware is in the red stickies.

hope this helps you if not have you got a friend, brother, sister with a PC it is so much easy to use one.....good luck

Cheers for that reddave it worked a treat, ironically I gave someone the tip of using COM3 in a previous post and didn't follow my own advice.
I now have a shedload of channels and time to start sorting me thinks.
Cheers again mate.

The Eurovox will only look for Comm Port numbers 1 to 4.

no problem buddy have fun sorting your channels, make sure you save them once your done using the loader software or use the autosort off firmware because if like me you press the red button to autosort by mistake all your hours of work sorting the channels will be gone!!
