    Default 8882 error prevention

Hey all, I got my hands on a spanking new STV4 last week and flashed it with v1.07 and its working grand apart from one slight problem.

Everytime I turn the box on it goes a bit funny. It kind of goes into an off on off on loop. It starts 8888, then ---- then 8882, which I understand is normal and is usually followed by b-t01 or somethin like that which boots it up, but it doesn't (not first time anyway) it just goes from 8882 to ----, 8888, ----, 8882, ----, 8888. and over and over. I end up flickin it on and off repeatedly and pulling the N** cable in and out and when I catch a brief glimpse of the box super USB logo hitting ok sharpish and then it does start working.

Thing is I know this may not be the exact place to post this but I was hoping one of the gurus in here could give me a quick reply.

I just need to know guys is there anything I can do to prevent my box bricking altogether???

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Has anyone else had this problem or has everyone else just died first time?

Not exactly that problem, but the 8882 problem is common enough due to a bad flash. It can be recovered using a Max232 interface and bin file.

You problem however looks like a boot up problem, which could be caused by a partial bad flash or more than likely a hardware issue. Why not tell your supplier of the issue and ask them to replace the unit?

cheers man, I will email my supplier and see if there is anything they can do but I dont know if they will replace it.

This is a real noob question but what exactly is this Max 232 interface?

is it something I could do myself and does it involve opening the box up?

Hi i was just wondering when using the Max232 - does the USB have to be inserted at the back of the box or does it have to be fully removed?

When you use the max232 you dont need the USB inserted, its not working anyway, thats the reason you are using the max232.

The max232 plugs into a 4 pin port, just behind the USB on the main circuit board.

You then use a null modem cable between the max232 and your computer I/O 9 pin serial port.

No worries m8, it is very easy to do, it will come with full instructions on what to do and the relevant software and firmware.

Like a said in the above post you will need a NULL modem lead, that does not come with it.

    Default Help on 8882

Sound like the firmware isn't loading propperly This may be of assistance to you....its worked for me on telepest

You'll need to get a 8882 fix adapter kit bud

tailor made circuits (on line) sell the 8882 fix adapter (£15)
maplins sell the null modem lead (£10) These are cheaper on line if you can wait for delivery.

you will also need to get a usb - com port converter - Maplins (£4) if you don't have a com port on your lappers or pc.

follow the instructions that come with the 8882 adapter and you should be fine, No promisses but its worked for me.

This set up allows you to update the firmware when the box doesn't load normally, it steps in and reloads the firmware to the box during the boot process.

after you have loaded the new firmware it should boot up propperly, however V1.07 firmware is supposed to be the most stable to use @ present.

    Hope this helps

    All the best
