The former Libyan intelligence officer convicted of the Lockerbie bombing, Abdelbaset Ali al Megrahi, has died, his brother has told Reuters news agency.
East Renfrewshire Council, which is supposed to receive updates about his condition following his early release from prison, has said it has received no official confirmation of his death.
A Scottish court in 2001 convicted him of the 1988 attack on Pan Am flight 103, but he was released on compassionate grounds in 2009 because doctors said he was battling cancer and had only three months to live.
Since then there have been reports that al Megrahi has either died or was close to death, only for these to be later denied.
Sky's Adam Boulton said it was difficult to get the latest reports confirmed by Libyan authorities because he is now a private citizen.
Neil Francis Lennon: "The only way a title is tainted is if you've won it and you cheated to win it."

I think its just a real shame he didnt die screaming in agony..
I do really feel sorry for this man and for his family; he was convicted and jailed with fabricated evidence.

The man should have died in a Scottish prison, I have always believed his release was motivated by political gain. The justice minister for Scotland Kenny Clark should have been forced to resign over the fracas that was his release.
Blair and Clarke may turn up at his funeral yet. Traitors.
I was sent to Lockerbie the morning after to dig by hand through the rubble in search for bodies it was horrific and to this day anytime i see the name lockerbie i get a bad shiver
