Updates.

I had some updates running in the background earlier tonight and prompting me to restart my computer.
When I restarted I got the message that programme part was missing. Tried restarting 3 times before going into safe mode via F8 which did the trick.

Hi mate, try this. It fixed the problem for me and allowed to update without the error

Right click CMD and run as admin then type

Sfc /scannow and enter

It should update any missing or broken files.

Does your windows update work the now after the crash or not work?

Mines didnt after I got this update but the above fixed it.

can you clarify what program is missing on startup?

if its a windows file Rodbouy's soultion should fix that

but as for the windows update is concerned i think you might have to reset your components

Just start the computer from the system restore point if it won't boot up. Or use the repair disk.

Thanks guys for your help. I tried Reapers link for Microsoft Fix It and it ran and solved the problem.
I actually have the Fix It center on my computer but haven't used it in a while.
Had auto updates enabled as I used to get updates before usually when I was about to log off going out to work and the first few updates always took an age to download.
Once again thanks to all for your interest and help.
ps. it didn't say what was missing other than programme part is missing
