Dreambox Sat vs Sky -- which to go for?

    Hey guys,

I'm using a 500c atm but things are about to change big time i'm so looking at what to do next...

Do i get one of the Sky deals (1/2 price hd telly -- ?25 for a full year, all channels)

Or go for a motorized dish and HD Dreambox set up.

    Any thoughts?

the sky deals a good one to get you started, depends if you want to do it legaly. im sure if you read around you will be able to make your own mind up. theres far,far more than sky could ever provide with a motorised dish/dreambox.

I have sky +hd full legit package. I know little about sat scene. If I get a dm500 hd and motorised setup with say a 80cm dish how many satellites would I get. Is there a site that gives you channel info and lastly how much HD content is broadcast. Cheers.

Depends where you live andwhat sats you can receive. LyngSat - Lyngemark Satellite will help. There are 1,000s of channels and no site that lists all channels AFAIK. Theres quite a few HD channels on each sat.

        THE TRUTH
        The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

if it helps any I've had the D500S for nearly 3 years now..

I've always had something legit for my UK TV.. either Virgin or as now, I've just moved to the Sky 1/2 price deal for 12 months..

The Dreambox is great for sports and movies.. I wouldn't like to rely on it for my primary viewing though..

Unlike the cable boxes which explored a floor in Virgin's encryption and very rarely went off, the satellite side requires the use of a share, which cant be talked about here..

Sat encryption is excellent and sometimes channels and packages are lost for a week or two until the cam guys come up with a fix..

There are thousands of channels out there.. i get the main packages from across Europe and its the best thing for the football..

Would i use it to replace my platform to viewing UK TV.. no way

My advice to you john8867 would be to get the Sky HD deal and a clone Dreambox 800 if you want to watch Saturday 3pm kick offs..
The coverage given by Sky UK is second to none for build up, half and full time programing..

The Europeans just show the match, no build up, adverts at half time and once the final whistle blows the program ends..

Run the sky HD off the sky minidish and get a second bigger dish (80cm - 100cm) for use by the Dreambox

I am very much the novice at sat but agree with opsmonkey.

I have had uninterrupted viewing on cable/ITV digital since the early hack days. I don`t actually watch much tv but its natural to want the lure of uk tv at your fingertips. Long time since I have had sky but very good half price offer just now so for at least 12 months its cheap as chips to watch. I cannot believe VM are not offering something similar they really are incompetent ~~~~ers. Granted they will pick up a %age of the N3 spill but could have done a lot more.

Personally use sat for football and its quite simply superb. I go to watch my team almost every game but excellent on a saturday afternoon to chill with a few beers in your own home having a choice of about half a dozen games when we are not playing. Mind you when 1w changes to N3 it will not be so good for me.

Find lots of sats are very similar to be honest in terms of channels. In the uk you can have 150+ channels and nothing to watch with sat its 3000+ channels and still nothing to watch LOL.

The outlay for a motorised step up is imho very inexpensive. If you can afford it mate and dont mind 2 dishes go for both - you will be spoilt for choice honestly.

Thanks guys, that's quality advice + much appreciated.

Atm i'm leaning towards the sky option cos it's a fab price for a year of hd tv. And it avoids any cs hassle...!

Yes, i can't believe that virgin have not come up with a few special offers to compete with Sky.... i'd stay with virgin for sure if they did a deal but they are not offering anything.

Going down the city centre (i live in Bristol), Sky are out in force offering special deals for new customers...

Any one want to buy a genuins 500c dreambox, one careful owner?!

You never know what the future holds . It's not going to give you a good price selling now. It's a Linux box so just put it in the cupboard and wait and see what develops m8y

John no one knows whats round the corner not even those who think they do!!

If you want to sell your dream sell it. Your not losing much though hanging on to it as I am sure it has paid for itself time x 10 at least.

My thoughts exactly m8. If it's paid for itself, which it probably has. Hang on to it and wait and see if anything develops. What would you get for it now ? It's basically a door stop once the new encryption is in.
