are Dbox's just good door stops now?

Well after not having a working dbox 2 sagem model for a year I finaly flashed a commando 12 image on it today and got it loading.

But nothing on scan, even brute force. I know I can't ask to many specifics but do these boxes still work or are they useless now?

What is nagra3? I keep reading about?

How can I access my dbox to add files, tried flashfxp but cant seem to get it to work even though I flashed an image fine by my ethernet cable.


Any pointers greatly appreciated.

theres always a bit of hope when your box has a ethernet connection,dbox in my opinion is not finished yet,c/s springs to mind though

If they won't work anymore why are there new images?

Can you FTP to the box?

See if you an ping the IP address of the dbox. I.e. In Windows, open command prompt [Start > in the search/run field enter: cmd (hit return)], in the black window that pops up type: ping <ip add of box> (e.g ping 192.168.1.30). If you get a reply, network connectivity works. You can then use a tool like WinSCP (free download...google it) to FTP to the box and access the files.

If you have a backup of you previous services.xml file, this contains the channel list, so you can reupload this onto your new image.

I set my area code and did a fast scan and now have about 110 channels, weird thing is most of them won't view but I have no idea why. Is it signal strength or something as some (ie very few) actualy work even though they appear in my bouqet list?

Are the magic files generic or do they have to be specific to the image you are using, ie commando 12 in my case?

not specific no ,you need to transfer the files in these to inside the same folders on box when done you need to chmod the cams in emus dbox side to 755,to do this right click on cams dbox side and click properties,attributes,and change 655 to 755 and save on way out,sure there is a read me in there.

I will have a play later today, I appreciate your help.

It must be hard sometimes for the veterans on here to deal with total lame heads like me LOL. Im pretty good woth computers, building em, fixing them etc but the Dbox is a whole new ball game.

If I can get it working ok my daughter can have our spare virgin box in her room as we have this plus a hd virgin box in the house already costing me an arm and a leg.

Ill post my results soon - hopefully with a BIG SMILEY.

HURRAH Done it

A HUGE thankyou to everyone on here. I used flashxp and copied the files over and at 1st nothing happened after I changed the attributes to 755 but then hey presto - all channels working.

Not sure how long for though as from what I can read on here the end is nigh - Boo Hoo

But for now
