Help with sat please

right. i have a Starview hd combo with the lan and pick up virgin media channels fine though cable. is it possible to connect a dish and receive all/most of the sky channels with no subscription. what will i need to do this? any help is appreciated and sorry if this have been covered, struggling to find info that makes sense to someone that doesn't have a clue about sat.
