    HP Pavillion dv5

    Hi There

    The fan on my dv5 are constantly on due to the temperature being always above 80c. Even with sufficient ventilation its still around that temperature. Does anybody know where it is a BIOS setting that can be changed or is it just poor design for the ventilation?

      hello and welcome to dk enjoy your stay.

      you could try cleaning inside the case the high temp maybe due to a build up of dust which will be detromental to the running of the pc in the longrun.

          And if you're feeling really randy, you can repaste the heatsink to the processor.

              artic silver is a good paste, just aply a thin layer,.

                  Overheating!

                  Hi,Sorry to hear that you own one of these as there is a major problem with a boat load of HP laptops with Nvidia chipsets.I run a pc repair business and have had lots of various dv series laptops all with exactly the same problem Overheating,Then the wireless lan goes off and last of all no display!!
                  !It is a major design fault but HP want none of it though Nvidia have owned up to the problem and pumped 10 million dollars to the manufacturers to help sort it out!!!
                  What you can do if yours has not died yet is strip it down and clean all fans,re apply good thermal paste and a copper shim over your GFX chipset(ebay sell em).Also this might sound extreme but where the vent is near the fan melt some holes in the bottom of the base plastics with a soldering iron this really works ive done a few.

                          The best solution that i have for you is : SELL THE THING

                          HP laptops have the baddest thermal design that exist on the market. Your laptop is hot not because of your CPU but because of you Video Card. I can bet that you must have a Nvidia, because there are many problems with HP+Nvidia.

                          Due to hight Temperature your video card will de solder herself from the motherboard and you'll have to buy a new computer
