    freeze on start recording

My db600pvr freezes at the start of a recording. I do this by selecting a channel, then switch db to standby. In the web-interfaces I then set a timer for that channel, which gets accepted. Destination for recording is a nfs-share. On that share two files appear beside 'recording.epl' : an .eit and a .ts . The ts-file is 0 b, so empty. It's therefore that I think the system freezes at the start of the recording. Because something is written I think the nfs setup to be ok. You can see it here :
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 65534 65534 56 2009-01-03 08:33 TV_Gelderland-03_01_2009-08_44-Gisteren_gemist_.eit*
    -r-xr-xr-x 1 65534 65534 0 2009-01-03 08:33 TV_Gelderland-03_01_2009-08_44-Gisteren_gemist_.ts*
    -rw-r--r-- 1 65534 65534 1132 2009-01-03 08:33 recordings.epl

The recording appears in 'recordings.epl' like this :
    TV_Gelderland-03_01_2009-08_44-Gisteren_gemist_.ts
    #DESCRIPTION: Gisteren gemist?
    #TYPE 16385
    /media/hdd/movie/TV_Gelderland-03_01_2009-08_44-Gisteren_gemist_.ts

The nfs server reports nothing special in syslog or other logs. I have tried recording under three different images, nabilo, gemini and now running pli-jade. Image does not matter is my conclusion.
Do not know how to solve this now, so if anyone can give me a clue ....
BTW I saw some posts about ngrab, am i correct to think this is a application for recording ? Should i need that on 600 pvr ?

I always use the EPG for recording. Why you are putting your box into standby when recording? I found that if the channel I am trying to record was not clear at the start of the recording than the recording would fail to start. Do you have this problem with any channel you try to record?

Did try recording from epg: watch a channel, in epg green button and entered a start time three minutes after present time for the channel I watch. Again on start recording system freezes. That is to say my tv keeps showing the channel, but dreambox does not react on rc anymore. Webinterfaces is also down. 'shutdown -h now' in telnet also gives no reaction, so plugging in and out of electricity is the only thing left.

        Try this M8

view, record and control dreambox 500 or 600 on pc by one program

The program is based upon streaming video from dreambox to computer by aid of windows media player and to control dreambox by built in web xtv.
ability to record to computer harddisk by two way
leave you to discover other features.

mfarajdbviewer3.0.1.rar can be downloaded from my online file sharing page here

I have mounted /hdd to my nas system and tbh anything I wish to record the web interface handles it all perfectly.

I would actually prefer this option over having an internal hdd.

          Works perfectly

my guess was ok, but install fails because some files on my system are out of date. I click ok for setup to update these files, but after reboot the problem returns, so obviously update fails.
I do run an old xp-version, without sp1 or sp2, it runs on vmware. I do not use it much. Any idea what could cause the install hickup ?
(this is the first time a program complains, so I guess it's something small)

no, at least not that I'm aware of. I run vmware on top of debian-linux.
With a little effort I can create a new virtual machine to install another version of windows....

second question, can my windows media player be out of date ? en therefore causing install-trouble ?
it says to be version 8.00.00.4477, but no idea if that is too old...

Hello all. Got it installed and running. found out that the program installer was packed with visual basic. Packets created that way have a file called SETUP.LST where dependencies and timestamps are listed. Details can be found here :
AppDeploy > Tips > Why I hate installations created in Visual Basic
So i updated manually 7 dll-files, upgraded to win media player 10 (11 needs SP3), and now installer worked perfectly.
After installing and adjusting settings it seems to work ok, although I do not understand why the right screen claims to be playing a song named after the ip of my dreambox. BTW, cannot hear it, I do not have a soundcard in my computer.
At the first click on the green 'record' button the dreambox has woken up (green led is on), but again frozen. There is still one thing to correct in my set up, the destiny for recordings is not the same on dreambox and windows pc. the directory (mounted nfs share) where the dreambox is told to put recorded files is not yet connected to my virtual windows pc. I have to run samba on the nfs-server to achieve that, once I have done that I can perform a better test.

Might the freezing continue, should I reflash my image ?

                          Progress is made !
For testing I made a folder on my virtual winpc a share, and mounted that as cifs on the db under /media/server1. After that I could start and stop a recording without any hickups of the db from my pc with aid of dreambox viewer. This is great.
With the rc I could play back the recording. There are some minor fixes to make, for instance the recording does not show up in movies, nor in the dreambox viewer's interface, but therefore I will have to mount the share under /hdd/movie instead of /media/server1 I guess. And I will install samba on my nfs-server, and see if it will work with nfs as well, for I begin to think there might be an unexpected issue there that caused the freezes of the db. I'll keep you informed...

So back again without too much happiness. I could record to a shared directory on my virtual win-pc. But then I would have to fire up linux desktop, vmware and on top of that windows. By that time the program to record will be near finished.
My Linux server is running 24/7, so i want to use that for recording.
I do run samba on it now, so i can mount my share through nfs or through cifs. Both of them mount well, but do not work well for recording. Problems slightly differ depending on the image used. (I have tried nabilo, pli and gemini)
I thought to try the newnigma with enigma2, but for recording it's useless. I like the image though, and the normal tv quality improves by using this image.
I saw a lot of people mentioning recording problems with the 600 box, and I saw that most of development is on enigma2.
So I give up now on recording with this box. I think of exchange it for a 800.
Thanks to all who did some thinking for me, I really learned a lot.
