Iphones and Ipods are extremely delicate! Although things look easy following guides on how to change the screen etc... When you actually start doing the work the slightest slip can ruin the whole device.

Because of this there could be any number of things wrong with it and its an aladdins cave to start hypothesising without further info

Its possible you have dislodged the antenna or damaged the cable to it and the only way of repairing if you are lucky is to replace that part. Or that a part of the mainboard has been shorted or it could be as simple as reactivating the phone with Apple via SAMprefs but to do that you need the device to be jailbroken. Like I say it could be any one of a million things.

What exactly did you do with it and were there any slipups that you made?

This should help, sorry I was referring to the cable for the GPS. Where is cellular antenna connector - iPhone 3G - iFixit

I get mixed up with all the different ones Ive taken apart

The fact you say that you had difficulty pressing down on the screen doesnt bode well and Im trying to think what it could be that was causing it not to go down properly. there are only the 3 cables for the screen which extend past the the mainboard. The antenna on this model is the little clip which touches the side of the casing and its attached directly to the mainboard. This shouldnt have been an issue as you shouldnt have needed to remove the mainboard.but in case it is pop up the screen again and check that the little prong is touching the side of the casing. and just make sure it is. If it is then the fault lies elsewhere.

NB. Remember to switch off the device before opening!!! ie press down on the top button until the slider to switch off comes up and then slide it and wait for it to switch off.
