some info with install of debian

i got a guide to install debian, seems easy enough, the first time i installed it i used the graphical install but for some reason it wouldnt let me log in, it kept saying authentication failure, i put the right password in but just would let me log in or connect with putty, so im on my second install but no graphical install this time, the part im not sure of is when it partition the drive, in the guide it shows u should have somefing like this.
    partition#1 of scsl1 (sda) as ext3
partition#5 of scsl1 (sda) as swap
    partition#6 of scsl1 (sda) as ext3
    but i only got partition#1 and 5
it gives options, All files on one partition
    separate/home partition
    separate/home/usr/var and /tmp,
i selected all files on one partition maybe thats why, but will it matter if just want to install oscam/cccam

if you are only using it for running oscam/cccam then there is no need to partition the drive.
If it isn't broke, don't try fixin it..!!!
