DVD's on Wii

Hello - I have recently softmodded my Wii but would like to play DVD's (standard and AVI files) on the console.
I have been reading several forums and googled a few leads but I cannot see a definitive application that works or a guide to do it.
I have seen applications such as mplayer/DVDX/gecho mentioned could someone please assist.

Yes mate u will need mplayerwii and dvdx installed onto sd card. for more info check out wiinewz.

mplayer ce unofficial version is excellent. google is your friend. brilliant for streaming avi files to your wii. plays movies brilliantly including subtitles etc. very easy set up.
