Is my Openbox broke? Keep getting Scrambled, run out of ideas!!

    Hi,

I turned my box on one morning to find everything scrambled, and it has stayed like this for 5 days now.

    I have tried:

    1. Checking my sub hasnt expired and servers are all ok.
    2. Updating the firmware.
    3. Factory Default.
    4. Adding the mgcamd config in again
    5. My settings worked on my mates box, but not on mine.
    6. His settings didnt work on my box nor did my own settings work on my own box.
    7. Done multiple satellite scans again, all in order and with reboots.
    8. Check ethernet cable isnt dodgy, its all good.
    9. Even checked the aerial coxial cable again.

Is there anything else i can do or is my box knackered? Only difference is my mates box firmware says 'Sky Box' i used this one:

Hope someone can help, Ive ran out of idea and im ready to throw it in the bin and give up!

    Cheers
    Paul

Is your box actually getting onto your network? Can you see it getting an IP from your router? Can you see the IP lease in your routers config? Can you ping your box?

            anyone?

Just tried another firmware and still says scrambled? Does this normally happen with the hardware, if it is that? Seems strange how it randomly just stopped working, it must be a setting or conflict?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there hope these suggestions help with your scrambled problem.

Can you see flashing where your ethernet cable connects in the box? flashing indicates transferring of data, static with occasional flash indicates no transfer of data. Try a new ethernet cable.

Can you access your routers mainpage to see what devices are connected to your router? this will indicate if problem with connection.

Is your Free to Air channels working okay?

Have you tried a factory reset on your box then installing all relevante software i.e. Firmware, channel listing etc before entering your subscription line?

To ping your box, open command box on pc/laptop. Go to start and type cmd, or 'run' if older version of windows then in command window type 'ping 192.168.*.*' filling in with your boxes ip address.

Try it on CCc as you can check if its online in the manage cfg

Bring your openbox round to your mates it it doesn't work there either I'd say your ethernet ports donald ducked if it works its your router.

                        Hi,

Free to air channels are fine.

Checked my mates box using my config and that works fine, tried the same ethernet cable and same ports, also used different ports. When i then try it on mine = scrambled .

So im guessing the cable is fine, and the router. Must be ok if it works on my mates box? Good idea though, ill try my box at my mates an see how he gets on.

How do i find out my openbox IP address? ive done ipconfig /all but cant see anything, same when my mates box is plugged in.

Sorry im new to this, but not sure how to do this: -
"Try it on CCc as you can check if its online in the manage cfg"

Signal and dish are fine as my mates box worked and i hooked sky back up and the worked, also free to air are ok on my box.

Just duno what could have randomly changed where my box wont work, but my setup works on other boxes! ahrrrr frustrating!

                        Cheer for the replies!

To check your boxes ip addy:
                          Menu
                          Network
                          Network Local Setting

                          IP should be there.

I have given my box to my mate, but he hasnt tried it yet for me. So in the meantime i have bought a new box.

Just to clarify, which firmware is the best, i was going to use this one on here:

And then install this channel guide:

Which order should i do this in?

                            1. Dump / backup current box settings
                            2. Then factory reset? - is this needed?
                            3. Install new firmware
                            4. Install channel list
                            5. Reboot
                            6. Add in config Mgcamd
                            7. Satellite scan
                            8. Reboot

Does this sound right, have i missed anything? Once i get my box back ill give the other suggestions a go.

                            Cheers again everyone?
