    Strong satellite signal

I am slightly baffled by the signal strength when trying to lock on to a satellite.
As an example Thor is supposed to be W 0.8 but if I try to locate the signal in that general direction I get nothing. I move the dish further around more towards South and then I get a really strong signal.
As well as Thor I am also able to get a decent signal for Astra 1, Hotbird, Atlantic Bird, Hispasat. even though they are supposed to be in a different location.

I realise there is probably a simple explanation but as a relative newcomer to Satellites, I cant see it.

If you get no picture then that means there is a similar transponder on another sat which it has picked up...we got fooled by this

When you set your system up did you make sure your dish was pointing due south, before driving it to Thor.

      THE TRUTH
      The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

No I didnt, pretty much just spun it arround to the general location for Thor.

Just to clarify, I am saying that, using the receiver to view the signal strength, there doesnt appear to be any signal when the dish is pointing in the general direction for Thor. Move the dish further south, away from the location of Thor, the signal then becomes stronger.

Are you on a motorized dish and if so are you getting all satellites ok.On setting up my motorized dish i pointed the dish due south then drove the dish to Thor. BBC news channel and adjusted disharound tiull i got strongest signal. All other sats come in clear and strong after that.
If your getting all sats ok but have to adjust the motor to get a good picture you may be slightly off with your Longitude.Try adjusting it upto .5 degrees up or down and see if it makes a difference. IE Longitude 2.7 adjust to 2.8 and so on upto a max of 3.1 and then down from 2.7 to 2.2
