LG DVD USB TV playback MKV files using external hd. Help?

    Hello, happy new year.

I have a LG tv and also a LG dvd player with usb port.

I plug in my external hd and i can see files to play back, however i can not see my mp4 or mkv files to select to playback

I was wondering how on earth do you get the LG DVD Player to play back the MKV / mp4 files so i can just watch from the external hard drive via the usb port.

Is there a way to enable mp4 / mkv playback?

    thanks in advance.

Yes, but whats the point in people ripping them to mp4 / mkv if they cant be played back, also converting them to avi wouldnt they lose quality through picture and sound?

see if there is a firmware update for your tv.

my LG didn't play mp4 files until i upgraded the firmware.

        Cheers

It is my understanding that LG don't read either ac3 audio codec or AAC audio codec I'm pretty sure it's the latter, so you will either have to convert via a video converter or seek out files on the ac3 audio format hope this helps.

I have an LG smart tv (2012 model) and it won't play AAC format,
I had to install Serviio on pc to stream movies.

You need your file sytem to fat for large files, mine sees all mp4 and mkv large files and plays. You can upgrade the tv software if its a smart tv.
                    Keep calm carry on.
