linking virgin media superhub with netgear dg343gt router linked via ethernet, thanks

Hi all, heres the dilemma, currently have virgin media 60mb superhub downstairs. I have an Ethernet cable running from superhub to bedroom. I have a couple of devices requiring wired internet connection. Problem is i have to switch Ethernet cable from one device to another. Annoying!!

Possible remedy - I have couple of old ADSL routers lying around. Would it be possible to use another router as a switch or access point. i would also like to use the new router to extend the signal however that would be a bonus.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

read the following link on using a old router as a wifi extender or you could get a 4port ethernet hub.

I would use homeplugs to connect the devices.

DD-WRT works for me, same scenario

I'm doing exactly what you have asked for, but not using an ADSL router but a standard cable router.. Have my super hub connected with an ethernet cable to a DLink running DD-WRT.

As long as your old router that you want to make a switch out of can run dd-wrt, you should be able to do the same.. When DD-WRT is installed, goto the setup page, and disable the wan interface.. (Setup->WAN connection type = Disabled).

You would also have to disable DHCP, which is on the same page few lines down..

Under network setup, you have to still assign an IP for your DD-WRT box still, and enter your gateway IP and Subnet.. You can use any of the LAN ports on the DD-WRT box to connect it to the superhub. Under wireless options you can also set the box to be an AP, but I'm not sure how it would work in your situation as I've disabled the wireless on my superhub..

All this is assuming one of your old routers can run dd-wrt ofcourse.. A Dlink 615 costs about ?10 on ebay and it's going to do the job.. hope this helps
