    HDD not loading up

    Hi,
I have a Seagate external HDD, when I plug it in it sounds like it starts to spin and then stops. It doesn't load up on the PC either.

Will the HDD be dead or the power?

    Thanks
    Lee

I've took it out of the casing to connect it using a separate power and SATA to USB, and it's still just powering up for 5 seconds and then powering back down.

    Is it no good?

Boot pc into safe mode and see if it starts then. I suspect a driver issue

run a smart disc check on it while it connected via the sata cables this should give you more of a clue what is wrong, has the drive been knocked or dropped while on ? A small drop while turned on can be the same as about 100g due to the speed of the spin etc etc, this is why I prefer good memory pens as they are more robust.

It's been dropped as it's always on my shelf hooked up to the network hub. I've tried connecting it straight to the PC but it still doesn't boot up or get recognised.

It makes two quiet clicks then starts to spin faster for about 2-3 seconds, then slows back down as though you are turning it off. This is then constantly looped
