advice please on which to get

    Hi all

Due to having a baby and money being tight we are having to cancel our vm subscription. We used to have sky so we have a dish all set up (got free sat upstairs)

I have been looking at boxes and the F5 and the UV + solo have cropped up.

Now I want to be able to record and set up recording so the UV box is the better choice for that but I just wondered what other people thoughts were.

I have signed up to the forum to get access to "GIFTS"

    Thank you very much

Before you decide you would be advised to read this thread from start to finish : http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...d-nigh-307225/ it may have some bearing on what you choose to do, as for 'Gifts' we dont support anything like that on this board Google will help you on that one

When I use the term "Gift" I read a thread someone else used the same turm I guessed it meant what I thought it ment I could be wrong..

Not the dual no just the solo one. Cannot afford a dual one would be better but oh well.

I basically want all sky channels and I thought you need a "Gift" to get them?

you need to read the rules again as that topic cannot be discussed here, and it certainly isnt a "gift" and not "free" either

using these boxes is not a way to cut down on your bills m8

Yeah I know it's not free its just a 12 month subscription deal.

I've just had a quick look at the thread about the service being stopped?

Oh it's all confusing! Would someone talk in pm?

the vu boxes are excellent boxes with excellent support, but ideally you buy one that will allow you to fit an internal hdd similar to sly plus (like the duo or solo2). you wont find any support on these forums or most other forums to help you on the 12 month "thingy" though and it is a banned topic if you had read the rules here. the term "gift" came about due to the extras touted by the protek and spider boxes but those have nothing to do with 28 east so dont help you either , people use that term very loosely to describe similar services now including those we dont talk about and not in pm either, sorry

best bet for future proofing your system(as far as you can in the satellite HOBBY!) is to get yourself a motorised dish(td88,tm2600,black ultra lnb) and linux stb but seeing as you want a twin tuner id say your looking at ?250 for the stb without the HDD included unless you choose an amiko alien but personally a vu+uno twin or vu+duo. you could then get a uk card with basic package for ?26.50 a month and then swap with friends. you could also go for a different card but these require a bigish lump some to be payed out. lastly you could scrap the uk and go with feeds, softcams, biss ect as you can get movies, xxx, kids, documentrys, footy all with a motorised dish although for this route a orbital 1m dish would be better for some of the weaker feeds and turnarounds. this is a hobby and like any hobby is as expensive or as cheap as you want it to be,regards mdt

like I said, its no way to try to save money and its a hobby to us, not a financial plan

                    however , have a read here http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...-setup-301108/

and dont ignore the obvious which in your case is a kryptview box like the 780 or 850

Hi, as I'm new to this too, I was wondering if you can get a receiver that can have the satellite and cable connection both connected. I have both active connections, but I'm not sure which way to go cable or satellite and this would in a way solve both.

                        Thanks

Yes mate shouldn't be a problem. You could go for a vu+ ultimo or wait for the vu+ duo2. Both have pluggable tuners.

VU+duo2 is 999euro,s so its out of range for most... seems VU are turning into DMM with their pricing structure! regards mdt
