    no signal fix skybox f3

I occasionally get no signal on all channels on skybox f3. A reboot or blind scan usually sorts it out.I'm wondering if reflashing the latest firmware 2013-03-28 may do anything.I'm pretty sure my feeds ok but I'm going to try my brothers box there when he gets the chance to bring it round
Also I wondered if any of you guys had seen this "no signal fix" on ebay No Signal Fix for Openboxs s9 s10 s11 s12 SkyBox F3 F5 & Dreambox SIGNAL BOOSTER | eBay

is at a attenuator or something

It's an in line amplifier... I could send you a higher quality one at the same price, they fit at the dish end of the cable...
I carry these as some recovers are a little "deaf" including the f3,f5 etc

Despite the heading of that listing, I would bet that it's not an inline amp, just a diode & capacitor placed in the LNB feed to reduce the voltage to the LNB horizontal/vertical switching.

jonathan...if you read the listing, it says that it is not suitable if you are loosing all channels, which you say you are.

What signal strength & quality are you getting when your channels are working normally?

one question, do you have any tall trees obstructing your dishes satellite signal path,i have had this problem with f3,pixellation on picture and then no signal, this only started when we moved last winter, come autumn and prob started, blossoming trees obstructing signal, cut trees no probs now,[just bill from tree surgeon, next winter im taking them down, just an idea.

Thanks for replies guys.My signal strength/quality is 70% plus-a bit higher on some of the freeview-not fantastiic I suppose.I had sly for 2 years and never had any problems. There are no trees in way or any new obstacles.Whats the purpose in reducing LNB switching? Also to repeat original question would there be any advantage in updating firmware?Could it be a fault on the box

Backup your current firmware and try flashing new firmware and give it a try.
If it isn't the firmware, then flash it back.

If its in warranty, then contact the seller.

                Or

The other thing that is known to go on openboxes is the thermister.

This usually shows itself as a no signal fault after the receiver has been on for a while.

On my s11 it's in a real bad place to change, but I managed it.

Info on the problem and credit for fix for s9 is here:

I would not take a Blind bit of notice of the SNR readings on these receivers out of around 20 that i have seen on average they all display around 70-73% SNR on virtually every channel i tried its more than likely a bug in the system drivers that prevents these type of receivers displaying a true value.

Some combinations of openbox/LNB appear to be close to the upper limit when switching the LNB for vertical channels.

The diode in line with the LNB reduces the voltage to the LNB enough to switch it reliably. A capacitor across the diode maintains the RF signal level.

quick update on box.Swapped dodgy (right word!!) box with another and that works fine
I found I can usually get signal back by switching lnb power on and off (in settings) or or failing that just going into tp list and then exiting.
