Decent 17 inch laptop on a budget?

    Hi all.
Not really overly pc savvy, bit of browsing and storage of photos, etc. But not much else.
my old windows vista ( yes there is still someone using vista) is on it's way out, so looking for a replacement.
I'm considering a laptop as a replacement, think a 17 inch would be best as it's not going to be lugged all over for use on trains, etc. I have a tablet for that. Just looking to free up so valuable conservatory real estate by binning my old desktop and desk.
So looking for at least an i3 processor, 4gb ram, 750 gb hdd and hdmi out.
I prefer a decent battery so I don't have to keep plugging it in and not too heavy for the odd occasion I need to take it for a walk.
Don't want to spend much more than about ?450, and I've seen the Dell inspiron17R and lenovo G780 in that price range.
Any other suggestions? I would prefer a 17 inch screen as it's a direct desktop replacement.
Also what should I do wih regards to the windows 8 u turn? Should I hang on till the revised windows 8 is released?
    Thanks all

Laptops we see the least of for repairs.....

Samsung, in 3 years of working at the shop only seen about 4 come in for repair !
Dell, very high quality builds and not much ever goes wrong
Toshiba, good solid laptops though seeing more than used to nowadays

anything else we see in fairly even amounts, we are seeing a lot more failing laptop hard drives than we used too, they just don't make them like they used to and the fittings don't seam to be cushioned as it could be on older machines solid state drive if it would fit into your budget would reduce the chance of this though so would making sure it don't get knocked bashed dropped etc etc.

We are just a small high st repair shop others may notice different trends

As for win8 avoid of the machine not touchscreen ! ask if you have a free windows 7 downgrade installed.
