Black wii 4.3e - does usb loader need soft mod first

Have done a few softmods but not for couple years .
Last time was on a couple of black wii for mates kids and put the hdloader on them with ext hdds.
Have a second hand black wii I want to put hdloader on but cant remember how i did it last time so have quick question - do I need to softmod before doing the hdloader?

Yes you have to softmod before you can add the USB Loaders.

If its a 4.3 then the easiest method is LetterBomb providing you have a web connection.

Make sure you do all 3 processes.

1) Install Homebrew.
2) Install BootMii on IOS.
3) Prepare SD card - so you can do a NAND backup straight afterwards, don't forget this.

You can do a sysCheck19 afterwards. Download ModMii6.2.6 and run it from Windows and use the SU option along with your sysCheck.csv file on the root of the SD card to find which wads are missing.

ModMii only adds 2 d2x-v8.0 wads so you may as well add all 7 wads from d2x-v8.0 final wad pack

Then find a suitable mains powered USB external hard drive to add you games on to, job done.

Already did the letterbomb last night but need to grab a new sd card to put it on.

There are loads of guides on here its a matter of knowing what to search for.

I've often thought about making a 4.3 softmod guide but I think it would get lost in all the other threads.

If you have any problems post them in here along with a sysCheck report as instructed in that link.
