any motorised satellite installers - derby area - possible realigning job - price????

Hi, I've had a motorised dish for a couple of years now. Stopped using the motorised dish for 4/5 months and now its not working.

1 meter dish + dark motor + inverto ultra lnb secured to a scaffold pole.
Tested inverto ultra lnb on sky mini dish, works fine as expected. Motor also seems to be working.

agc = around 8% however shoots to 99% every 5 seconds.
    snr = 0%

I think the satellite may need realigning or possible that the cable needs replacing. IS THERE A WAY TO TEST THE CABLE IS DAMAGED OR NOT? HAVE A FLUKE 1652 MULTIFUCTION METER.

Are there any installers covering derby area?
what price am i looking at?
    any installer recommendations?

    Regards.

Use your meter and put it on ohms reading or better the beepy function test between the outer parts of the f connect and the core in the middle. If the meter beeps then it shows you have a short on the cable.

H i Have you checked if green light is on the motor and is receiver set to USALS or 1.2???. If yes then send dish to a satellite and see if the dish is actually moving. Use USALS for this as it should move the dish , 1.2 will only move the dish if satellite was previously saved with 1.2 otherwise dish will not move. If dish moves then problem may be with alignment or LNB connections. As you have said that LNB is working then i suspect it must be cable problem. Do you get any pictures at all , if none then its alignment or LNB connection problem.

      Regards.

thats what i thought, i know the cable needs replacing, dont look in great shape. instead of drilling through wall, i trapped the cable under the double glazed door.

however i used new cable and it still would not work. i got a feeling its out of line.

is ?40 reasonable price to get it realigned?

?40 is a bargain... Which would make me suspicious of his skills:what:
Spend the. Money on a meter and do it yourself.

            what meter should i buy.

i think the guy thats coming over is the same guy who initially set the dish up.

he never new what he was doing. i had to explain everything to him. even showed him the thread from here, he would not accept my suggestions until he could not figure out how to install the dish.

money will only exchange hands until he completes job. no money otherwise.

can you recommend a decent meter for future realignments?

personally i think thats a reasonable amount. just labour for 1/2 hours work. ?20 p/h. same as an good jib graded electrician. Pharmacist get ?20/25 p/h after 5 year degree.

send it to 13east and if no signal move the dish with the receiver "positioner setup" step by step until you get a picture. You may need to try east then west.If you get a picture then adjust your usals settings for your longitude to trick usals.Only really a temp solution but will help to see if its working.

What you may deem reasonable someone else may not, i would also say electricians once qualified are slightly more Tech minded so to speak than the average installer but then again you dont see electricans going onto roofs daily in wind and rain doing a job where the risk to life is more prominent if care is not taken.

In this day and age and current climate its swings and roundabouts in every trade and people will only pay what they deem fit to pay and the Person doing the job will only do that job if they think the amount is right for it.

yh mate both have there risks.

with regards to my installation. only a 'A' frame ladder is required as its only 8 foot high.

Then the ?40 would be better spent on a half decent second hand meter and so would save you any further callouts

                            ?40 is a fair price,
But trapping the cable under door is not a very good idea,
You might of shorted your tuner?

If you MUST pass it under the door, you can get a flat link cable.. But I would rather drill a hole and fit a new length of cable.
